Socialist Labor Party Hall – Facility Usage Policies
The following usage policies apply to all events held in The Old Labor Hall and are to be
considered a part of any agreement between Renter and the Barre Historical Society. By signing
the agreement the Renter agrees with all policies included in this document.
1. Fee Schedule
1a. All Renters are required to pay a $100 “Facility Usage Deposit” fee, to be returned after the
event if all trash is removed and the main hall, kitchen, and bathroom floors are broom clean and
all surfaces are wiped clean. Failing that the $100 deposit will be forfeited used to cover the
cleaning fees of the Hall.

* Including set up and break down time.
lc. The Board of Trustees may from time to time allow reduced fees or free use of the Labor Hall
for a non-profit community event. Requests for fee waivers must be submitted in writing, with
reasons for said waiver, to the Barre Historical Society.

2. Reservations and Deposits

All renters must have a reservation.
All renters must sign an agreement 10 days prior to the event.
All deposits are due 10 days prior to the event.
One time renters:
• Reservations are secured when a $100 “facility usage” deposit and signed agreement
are received by the Barre Historical Society, P.O. Box 496, Barre, VT 05641
• Full rental fee for one time users is due on the day of use
• Cancellations over 30 days in advance – full refund of deposit
• “Facility usage” deposits will be refunded when the Reservation Coordinator
determines if the Hall is sufficiently cleaned (left as found).

2e. Weekly/monthly renters:
• Reservations are secured when a signed agreement is received by the Barre Historical
Society, P.O. Box 496, Barre, VT 05641.
• Fees are payable to the Barre Historical Society on a monthly basis. Failure to pay
within 14 days of billing will result in cancellation of reservation.
• A security deposit may be required and will be fully refundable after the event if the
hall is left in good order.
• 24 hours’ notice of cancellation is required. Deposits may be withheld.
3. Conditions and Rules
• No food except in main hall.
• All garbage or perishables must be removed at end of rental period.
• No one is allowed in the restricted areas of building without permission.
• There shall be no use of restricted areas of hall.
• If you use tables, chairs, etc., return them to where you found them.
• Always return hall to pre-use condition (forfeiture of “facility usage” deposit if not
complied with)
• Permitted for no more than 500 people, subject to change.
• Absolutely nothing can be stuck to painted walls and doors. NO TAPE, TACKS,
PUSHPINS, NAILS.
• Some display boards are available if needed.
• Do not use duct tape or masking tape on wood floors. Gaffers tape only is permitted.
• Refrigerator and cupboards in catering kitchen are off limits unless prior approval is
received. Equipment is inventoried and anything missing will be charged to renter.
• No smoking anywhere in the building, nor on exterior porches, or within 50 feet of
building.
• No alcohol anywhere on site without use of a licensed caterer or permission from the
Board of Trustees.
• Licenses from the city for entertainment events must be obtained by renter. Any fees
are the sole responsibility of the renter, and a copy must be given to the Barre
Historical Society before rental period begins.
• Any events that may require hiring police or security for traffic or crowd control shall
be the sole responsibility of the renter, including all associated costs or fees
• This building is 100 years old and A NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK. Please
treat it with respect.
4. Restricted Areas of the Building
• The second floor
• Front rooms on first floor
• Mechanical, pump, and sprinkler rooms
• Unfinished portion of basement
• NO RENTER IS TO ENTER THE RESTRICTED AREAS OF THE BUILDING
WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE OWNER.

5. Smoking – Fire Safety
• State law prohibits smoking anywhere in the hall.
• Smoking is also prohibited on exterior porches and within 50 feet of building.
• The use of any and all open flames and pyrotechnics on Labor Hall property is strictly
forbidden.
6. Entertainment ordinances
All necessary permits and licenses (and any fees involved) are the sole responsibility of
the renter. A copy must be given to the owner before rental period begins.
7. Music license
Renter has the solve responsibility for all fees associated with music royalties or music
licensing fees.
8. Noise level
The Barre Historical Society reserves the right to limit noise levels at the Labor Hall and
conditions for use of music. Barre City ordinances prohibit elevated noise levels after 11 pm.
9. Renters equipment
All equipment brought to the Labor Hall by the renter must be removed at the end of the
rental period. The Barre Historical Society is not responsible for the loss or damage to any of the
renters equipment when used at the Labor Hall.
10. Decorations
Style of decoration and method of installation must have prior approval of owner.
11. Alcohol and drug policy
Alcohol is permitted on premises through the license of a full service caterer and/or
approval of the Board of Trustees. Caterer is responsible for obtaining all permits and licenses
and must have prior approval of owner.
Illegal drug use is NEVER permitted on Labor Hall property.
12. Use of building by minors
Reservations for use of the building may ONLY be made by people under age 21 in
collaboration with someone 21 years or older. Rental agreements must be signed by someone 21
years or older who assumes responsibility for the terms of the contract.
Groups mostly comprised of members under 18 must have a ratio of at least 1 adult per
20 youth. For any dance or event involving more than 50 people, the chaperone ratio shall be 1
adult for every 10 youth. The names and phone numbers of all chaperones must be provided at
the time of signing the rental agreement.
The Board reserves the right to refuse or cancel any under age event which fails to meet
the above conditions.
Children of meeting attendees under the age of 12 must not be left unattended.

13. Damage to the building
Renters shall be liable for any breakage, loss or theft of any property caused by members
or guests of the rental group in the event that these exceed the security deposit.
14. Parking
The parking lot of the Old Labor Hall is shared with a commercial granite company that
requires transportation and shipping access during business hours. Parking is restricted for
weekday use to areas closest to the OLH. Renters who block access may be asked to move.
Street or metered parking is available in areas around the Hall.
15. Endorsement disclaimer
Permission to use the hall does not constitute endorsement of the subject matter of the
meeting or viewpoints expressed by participants in the programs.
16. ADA Requirements
Groups using the hall are solely responsible for complying with the Americans with
Disabilities Act.
17. Lawful use
The renter shall not use the facilities in any manner which violates federal, state, or city
laws and ordinances.
18. Indemnification and liability
All users agree to indemnify and hold the Barre Historical Society harmless from all
claims, liability, damage, injury, penalty, fine, or loss, directly or indirectly, by any persons,
authority, or entity, for injuries to persons or property or damage which in any way relates to the
use of said premises by users; and if any suit or proceeding shall be brought against the Barre
Historical Society on account of damage, injury, omission, neglect, commission, liability claim
or loss occasioned by the use or by activities on said premises, including the parking area,
whether by third parties, or employees, agents, invitees, licensees, or guests of the user, or any
other person, the user, at its sole expense, will defend same, and will pay any judgments which
may be recovered against the Barre Historical Society.
