Johnson Brothers Liquor Company Scholarship
2017-2018 Academic Year
The Johnson Brothers Liquor Company scholarship program provides financial
assistance to graduating high school seniors from Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South
Dakota in order for them to continue their education at a college, university or licensed trade or
vocational school in the United States. Multiple scholarships are usually awarded annually.
Amounts and number of awards vary year to year.

High school seniors graduating in 2017
Minimum graduating GPA of 2.5
Parent or legal guardian must be employed full-time (40hrs/week) in a role relating directly to the
wine, spirits and beer business in a licensed on or off-premise establishment
Parent or legal guardian must be employed for a minimum of one year at the qualifying
establishment when your application is due. Only one parent or legal guardian needs to be
employed.
Qualified establishments may include but are not limited to: liquor stores, wine shops, bars,
restaurants, etc.
Who is NOT Eligible:

Individuals who have a parent or legal guardian that is an employee of one of the following:
Johnson Brothers and affiliated companies, wineries, breweries, distilleries, rectifiers, importers,
other wine, beer or liquor distributors
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
OBTAIN THE FOLLOWING FIVE (5) DOCUMENTS:
1. Parent Proof of Employment
A signed and dated letter on business letterhead from the employer confirming current, full-time
(40hrs/week) employment of at least 1 year in a qualified role along with a description of their
role
2. Transcript
Official high school transcript since 9th grade obtained from the school in a sealed envelope
3. Letter of Recommendation
Secure one letter of recommendation on official school letterhead from a high school teacher,
high school guidance counselor or high school administrator in a sealed envelope
4. Essay #1
Write a short 1-2 paragraph essay titled “Goals” explaining your educational and career goals and
how this scholarship will help you achieve these goals
5. Essay #2
A 3-4 paragraph essay (approximately 500 words) titled “Hardship or Obstacle” that describes a
hardship or obstacle you have had to overcome and how you overcame that hardship or obstacle
*IMPORTANT: All documents must be submitted together and mailed in ONE packet.
Incomplete applications will be mailed back to the applicant and will not be processed.
INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS MAY BE DISQUALIFIED.
