What is the European
Framework Program (FP)?
• EU's main funding instrument for R&D (since 1984)
• Goals:
•
Strengthen the scientific & technological base of European Industry
•
Support EU policies and address major Societal Challenge
•
Create a “European Research Area” (ERA)
• Covering all major scientific and technological disciplines
• Targeting the major European industrial sectors
Israel is an Associated Country
since 1996:
allows Israeli entities
full participation
in the Framework RTD Programs
Who can participate in the
European FP program?
• Funding implemented via calls for proposals;
•
Major collaborative actions: Consortium with at least 3 partners
from 3 different EU Member States / Associated Countries
•
•
Some actions allow for a single applicant
Any legal entity can participate:
•
•
•
•
Companies
Research institutes
Public authorities
Individuals

H2020 Aviation Research
Joint Undertakings (PPPs)
Clean Sky
 Goal: Developing a new generation of aircrafts with noise
reduction and lower CO2 emissions
• Founded in 2008 by the European Commission
• Includes the industrial leaders of European aeronautics
• Reaching the ACARE 2020 goals (compared to 2000):
•
•
•
•
50% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
80% reduction in nitrous oxides (NOX) emissions.
External noise reduction of 50%.
Improved environmental impact of the lifecycle of aircrafts
H2020 Aviation Research
Joint Undertakings (PPPs)
Clean Sky
 Development Strategy:
1. New Technologies: selected, developed and monitored
• most promising in terms of potential impact on the environmental
performance of future aircraft.
2. Concept aircraft
• Integrating technologies into a conceptual configuration.
3. Demonstrations
• integrating several technologies at the aircraft level, and validate
their feasibility in a relevant operating environment
