FROM THE PRESIDENT Full marks and congratulations to all

FROM THE PRESIDENT
Full marks and congratulations to all involved in the Allan Scott Family Wines Tournament
which attracted over 190 entries.
The Organisers, Sponsors and all the Volunteer helpers ensured the Tournament’s success,
and compliments have been pouring in.
The Course
Many favourable comments continue to be received on the presentation of our course.
Not all is rosy though; the irrigation system has issues which are causing problems for Gavin
and will not be an easy fix. We also have a moss problem in some greens which is being
addressed. Treatment does stress the grass growth on the greens, so it is a balancing act to
maintain acceptable greens for competition play.
On a sad note we record the unexpected passing of Richard Speight, a valued member of
the “Mowing Team”. His cheerful disposition and willingness to assist will be missed.
Eagles National Tournament
240 Eagles Society members gathered in Marlborough to have their annual tournament. The
men were divided between Fairhall and Rarangi playing a day at each and the women were
at Blenheim and Picton. They represented 15 districts around the country.
One of the highlights of the occasion was 16 year old Amelia Garvey playing the course and
shooting a 75 off the white tees. She was named the Eagles Golfing Society of NZ player of
the year. Amelia is currently the No1 player in Canterbury and in Feb. won the South Island
Women’s Strokeplay Championship.
The Allan Scott Tournament
The organising committee had a debrief on Monday so I thought we could share a few of the
details from the tournament.
 Allan Scott family Winemakers have sponsored the tournament for 18 years.
Amazing loyalty and very much appreciated.
 This tournament is the major fundraiser for our club returning over $150k plus over
the 18 years.
 This year it attracted 193 people from 42 clubs from throughout NZ. The most
northern Wellsford and southern Wanaka.
 Prizes value was well over $9k.
 Apart from the committee there were at least 15 other members assisting with
spotting, trundlers loaning carts, selling raffles etc.A special thanks to those
members.
 22 people required carts each day that meant we were hot seating.
 This year we surveyed the players – most were complimentary but there were also
brick bats so we still are still learning and improving the model.
 Roll on 2018!!
The Saint Clair Greensome
A good field last Saturday and the competition enjoyed by all. A big thank you to Saint Clair
Family Estate Wines and most especially Neal and Judy Ibbotson for their support.
The Match Committee learnt exactly what you can and cannot achieve in the dotgolf system
and were very embarrassed by the delay. We apologise for the inconvenience to all players
who were awaiting the results and the incorrect presentation of the women’s trophies. We
will certainly learnt from this hiccough.
Greensome winners were.

and request a fill!!
Junior Tiger Tournament
The Juniors had a Tiger Tournament at Rarangi on Sunday. This is organised by Tasman
Golf for all the Marlborough clubs to participate. There were 22 juniors involved from
Marlborough, Blenheim and Rarangi. Congratulations to Taylor Wareham, Hugh Robinson,
Oliver Rooney, Sameul Strong, Kevin and Amy Berg and Harry Whyte for representing the
club so well.

Catering
Anne is doing a great job catering for not only our regular days but has also had to cope with
a number of tournaments like the Eagles Visit earlier this month.
Well done Anne, we certainly are enjoying your tasty food.
Here is a message from Anne regarding her future plans.
Hi Everyone,
I am looking at starting up early evening freshly made "Take out" meals in the near future. I
am currently putting together a menu and will have it on display at the club.
I will also be doing a leaflet drop within the Fairhall area including a sample menu and the
days the "Take out" meals will be available.
I look forward to offering a variety of food delicacies to you all.
Don't forget I have a great variety of food on club days.
Bon appetit
Anne Eastwood MGC Caterer.
2017 Membership subscriptions
Payments for the 2017 season should now be complete with the exception of Corporate
Members as they accounts went out later, and people who have made arrangements to pay
progressively.
If you do not have a GREEN tag on your bag please expect to be approached on the course.
There are approximately 50 on the table in the clubhouse waiting to be claimed by their
owners.
It makes it very difficult for GolfHub to keep an eye on illegal users on the course if members
don’t take the trouble to display current membership. And believe it or not we do have
people playing on to the course who are not members.
The Course
We have new rakes in the bunkers which should make your life easier repairing the bunkers
after use. The easiest and most helpful way is to rake the bunker correctly and leave it in
the same or better condition than you found it. The click mentions leaving the rake outside
the bunker – we definitely want it left in the bunker. With that in mind, look at the link below
and remember what it takes to keep your bunkers in A1 condition. It doesn’t take a lot, just a
little care on your behalf and some pride in the way you want to see your course.

PITCH MARKS
The greens softer more receptive surface needs looking after. Repairing pitch marks not only
keeps the surface flat and putt able, it also keeps the grass healthy and more alive. Take the
time to look at the link below and develop a good habit when you’re out playing.

On that note.
