Note from the principal: Bennett Elementary School is a community school. We would like to improve the grounds. We have raised garden beds that need to be primed and painted. We also have a butterfly and hummingbird garden that needs to have additional plants and shrubs added as well as birdfeeders, bird houses, hummingbird feeders and houses. We would also like to see benches and picnic tables to encourage the community to relax and enjoy the grounds. We need some indoor clean up. We have a room in the basement of Bennett that needs some TLC. It is primarily organizing and discarding old, obsolete items. There are abandoned, burned up homes across the street from the school and within sight of school grounds, which need to be boarded up or leveled. There are empty lots which need the grass mowed on the same city block as the school. These lots end up being used for dumping when the grass gets too high. Your consideration for Bennett as part of the ARISE Neighborhood Day Project is most appreciated. I think it would be a wonderful tie-in to our summer enrollment-recruitment campaign. 10. The goal for Edison Elementary is to have colorful murals painted throughout the building to improve the overall quality of our building for students, parents, and staff. In addition, I would love to have additional areas of the building painted with fresh paint and/or creative murals such as in the gym, art room, music room, classrooms, main hallways, pre-k/kindergarten wing, auditorium, lunchroom, and main office. The murals should be creative works of art that showcase famous scientists, inventors, and scholars since our building has adopted the identity of being "Edison Inventors." I envision the gym with murals of famous athletes who are pioneers in various athletic fields. I envision the auditorium with murals of famous individuals in the field of arts and entertainment. I envision the main hallways with murals of famous scientist, scholars, and inventors. I envision the main office with possible murals of famous leaders. I envision a possible similar theme throughout individual classrooms and hallways in the building. I feel that the colorful and creative murals will enhance our inventor's theme in the building. This will also increase our student's overall awareness of successful individuals in the world of math, science, and leadership. 20.
