A warm welcome back...
Pre-School
Happy New Year to you all. A brisk and breezy start to the new year
with many new faces in Pre-Prep - a warm welcome is extended to
all of our new pupils, plus our new staff as well. In Pre-School we
now have Miss Chelsea Rentmore working alongside Mrs Cocks and
Mrs Becky Landrock is assisting with the very youngest children.
We also have Mr Tim Davis helping us in class for four mornings a
week. He is on a gap year from Australia and will be helping out in
class and assisting with some of the PE and swimming lessons. Our
beautiful Forest School classroom was completed over the
Christmas break, so everyone is looking forward to being able to
spend some extended time out in the forest – providing the
snowstorms do not stop us! Our first weekly theme of ‘New Year –
New Start’ seems to have been taken on board by the children and
they all seem determined to work hard and enjoy themselves this
term. We certainly have lots to look forward to!
The children have returned bright, happy and a little bit taller
to Pre-School! They have enjoyed all the exciting activities set
up, especially the large role play house and the painting table.
The children have told us all about their Christmas news and
lots enjoyed watching ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ on the
television. Perhaps the Pre-School need to go on a bear
hunt...

Are We Nearly There Yet?
This week the reception
children went on a very exciting
trip to @Bristol. We had such
fun finding out about lots of
different things. I think our
highlights were meeting and
operating real robots, playing
with large bubbles and moving
the giant hamster wheel.

We would like to welcome Fizzy, Willow, Zofia, Barnaby,
Oscar, Isobel, Bea, Jonah and Charlie to Pre-School.

Year 1 and Little Bear
“Little Bear was very excited. It was his birthday and his dad
had promised to take him to the park, to play on the new
climbing equipment. But, when he arrived at the playground all
of the climbing frames were identical. He was really
disappointed.” The children in Year 1 have designed some
more climbing equipment for Little Bear. They each had five
cubes and worked out different ways of putting them together.
They recorded their designs on squared paper and built Little
Bear a new playground. Well done, Year 1!

Year 2 New Year
Traditions
Year 2 have started the
year with a bang by
looking at New Year
traditions around the
world. They then had to
choose their favourite
traditions and write an
information leaflet
about these. As part of
this, the children have
been designing a New
Year mask. The children
had to ensure their design was happy as the New Year is a
celebration. In the Exploration Area, the children have been
able to make New Year cards for family and friends.
The children have loved playing in our celebrations shop;
using and applying the skills they had learnt during
Enterprise Week. The children have been developing their
understanding of money and are beginning to solve
reasoning problems. For example, can you make 51p using
two silver coins? We have had a great start to the spring
term. Well done Year 2 - Keep up the hard work!
We would like to welcome
Ellis C (pictured above) to
Millfield Pre-Prep. He has
joined Mrs Boyd’s class in
Year 1 this term.
