THE DANUBE IS EUROPE’S LONGEST
river, flowing through or forming the border of eight
countries. Medieval towns adorn its banks and
historic empires owe their influence to this significant
cultural and historic waterway.
Our journey begins in Nuremberg, a city with a rich
history dating from the Holy Roman Empire to World
War II. The bucolic Bavarian scenery on the outskirts
of town adds to the charm of the excellent course we
play, Golf Club am Habsberg.
Our host vessel for this journey is AmaViola,
launched in 2016, she is one of the newest members
of the AmaWaterways fleet of luxury river ships.
Passengers will appreciate the ship’s elegance, as
well as the spacious suites and staterooms, most
with private balconies. Offering the best in service
and accommodations, gourmet cuisine and local
wines enjoyed in a choice of dining venues, our
vessel provides a relaxing and gracious home away

Gliding down the Danube, we achieve a perfect

depart your home city on august 13 for an
overnight flight to nuremberg, germany. upon
arrival, you are greeted and transferred to le
méridien grand Hotel. the afternoon is at your
leisure until we gather for a welcome reception
this evening.

AUGUST 15: NUREMBERG, GERMANY
GOLF: GOLF CLUB AM HABSBERG
golf Club am Habsberg has been consistently
recognized as one of the top courses in europe
while at the same time remaining largely unknown
and undiscovered. the course, designed by graham
marsh, features large greens surrounded by
closely mown approach areas requiring players to
contemplate their method of approach: chip, pitch
or putt. a good sand game is a must in order to
score well on this layout that has 87 bunkers.
TOURS:
our cultural tour explores the fountains, churches
and picturesque alleys of nuremberg’s old town. a
visit to the imperial Castle reveals the city’s historic
past as a free town of the Holy roman empire and
as a cultural hub for artisans and craftsmen in the
15th and 16th centuries. today’s culinary tour takes
us through the gostenhof neighborhood, or goHo,
home to modern artists and nuremberg’s up and
coming culinary scene. We will enjoy a variety
of fare on our tour, including of course, famous
nuremberg sausages. our history tour focuses on
nuremberg’s fascinating role in World War ii. We
visit the documentation center at the former nazi
Party rally grounds and Court room 600, site of
the nuremberg trials.

AUGUST 17: PASSAU, GERMANY
Brunnwies Golf Course
GOLF: BRUNNWIES GOLF COURSE
the peaceful hills and farmland of bavaria
provide an ideal setting for golf. designed by
bernhard langer, brunnwies is one of six golf
courses that comprise the Hartl golf resort.
the setting exudes charm with endless views
of the forests and farmlands of lower bavaria,
as well as a farm-style clubhouse that serves
a beer once brewed by monks from nearby
aldersbach monastery.
TOURS:
touring passengers can choose to explore the
town of Passau on a guided walking tour or
cycle through the bavarian countryside. once
referred to as the “venice of bavaria,” Passau is
filled with fine examples of baroque, rococo and
neoclassical architecture like the 15th century st.
stephen’s Cathedral, home to the largest church
organ in europe. if your preference is to explore
a little farther afield, hop aboard our waiting
bicycles and enjoy a guided ride in the gorgeous
bavarian countryside through shaded forests
along the danube to aldersbach – with a stop at a
local brewery to taste the region’s famous Pilsner.

AUGUST 18: MELK • DÜRNSTEIN, AUSTRIA
golfers take a well-deserved rest today as
AmaViola cruises through the Wachau valley, one
of the most beautiful and historic parts of austria.
We stop at melk and tour the famous abbey,
built in 1089 and located on a cliff overlooking
the danube. following our visit to melk, guests
can choose to sail to dürnstein aboard AmaViola,
or ride the “trepple-ways” bike paths that trace
the river to meet AmaViola in dürnstein. one of
the most picturesque towns along the danube,
dürnstein is set at the foot of the castle where
richard the lionhearted was imprisoned. this
afternoon, guests can choose between a guided
walking tour of dürnstein, or a guided hike to
the fortress.

AUGUST 19: VIENNA, AUSTRIA
GOLF: COLONY CLUB GUTENHOF
located just south of vienna is austria’s first 36-hole golf club—
Colony Club gutenhof, which has hosted both the european
tour’s austrian open and the austrian Women’s open. its two
parkland courses are set among century-old forests and winding
streams. golfers will have to accurately negotiate numerous water
hazards and well-placed bunkers to score well at gutenhof.
TOURS:
vienna annually tops worldwide lists of “best places to live” and
“best quality of life.” over the next couple of days, we discover
why with tours that provide a glimpse of viennese life. tour some
of the highlights of vienna including the Hofburg complex and the
12th century st. stephen’s Cathedral. or, go “behind the scenes”
to discover some of the city’s most beautiful private courtyards on
a tour of the blutgassen district. brush up on your dance moves
in a private waltz class. a limited number of guests are invited
to see a special performance of the lippizaner stallions at the
spanish riding school. this evening, all guests enjoy an intimate,
private concert, sampling the music of some of austria’s most
notable composers.

GOLF: FONTANA GOLF CLUB
after opening in 1997, fontana golf Club quickly established
itself as one of, if not the, best golf courses in austria. designed
by course architect doug Carrick, fontana hosted the austrian
open for a number of years. the bent grass greens and fairways
are superbly maintained, adding to the enjoyment of playing
this fine course—as do the tasty bratwursts offered at the
halfway house.
TOURS:
vienna features over 1,200 miles of cycling paths, and today we
are guided on bicycles through this wonderful city, with stops
along the ringstrasse at the state opera House, Parliament
and City Hall. or, venture to schönbrunn Palace, the summer
residence of the Habsburg emperors from the 18th century until
1918, where the 6-year-old mozart played for empress maria
theresa in the palace’s Hall of mirrors. discover the art nouveau
scene around vienna, or choose to go Heuriger Hopping – an
exploration of wine taverns overlooking the city, complete with
tastings and pairings.

fly to Prague, where we spend three nights at the
four seasons Hotel, ideally located by the Charles
bridge. Prague has some of the finest architecture
in the world and this capital city survived both the
socialist era and World War ii relatively unscathed.

the Czech masters on the european tour. all
passengers enjoy tours of the old town square as
well as Hradčany Castle, the official residence of
the President of the Czech republic, and location of
st. vitus Cathedral. visits to the mucha museum,
municipal Hall and the Jewish Quarter will be
highlights on our tours.

budapest is a treasure trove for exploration. from
our docking location on the danube, we are ideally
situated to discover both halves of this exquisite
city, buda and Pest – visits to the opera House,
Parliament, Heroes square and the Castle Hill
district are sure to delight. or, if you prefer, you
can tour the Jewish Quarter; our private guides
share the historic struggle of the people of budapest
through World War ii, and as they fought their way
out from behind the iron Curtain to create a beacon
of eastern european democracy. an opportunity to
visit the famous széchenyi baths is also possible.

Tour price is $1,695 per person, double occupancy, based
on a minimum of 16 participants. Includes three nights
accommodations, breakfasts, transfers to and from golf and
touring, transfer from Prague Airport to Four Seasons on
August 23, 2017, transfer to Prague Airport from Four Seasons
on August 26, 2017, tours and one round of golf. Airfare from
Budapest to Prague is not included but will be arranged by

GOLF: PANNONIA GOLF CLUB
We travel into the Hungarian countryside to
Pannonia golf & Country Club, located on a site
that was a country home for the Habsburgs over
180 years ago. nestled in the beautiful máriavölgy
valley, this course, designed by doug Carrick,
features generous fairways, deep bunkers and
imaginatively shaped greens. it is a wonderful
closing round to our journey down the danube.
TOURS:
today, you may visit the town of szentendre, a
charming town with dozens of small galleries and
cafés that is home to a Hungarian artist colony.
or, sneak behind the iron Curtain at the House of
terror, the former headquarters of the communist
secret police; or, tour the City market and taste
Hungarian goulash and other local favorites on our
culinary tour.
