SMART – Using Interactive Whiteboards Where will I find one? − SMARTboards are available in a number of classrooms e.g. MR107 and FN114. 1 − Older Promethean boards are gradually being replaced with SMART boards across campus. What can I do at the board? The SMART Interactive Whiteboard provides an alternative interface for the attached computer. Once logged in, you can control the computer from the board using either a pen from the tray or your finger in place of the left click of the mouse. This allows more flexibility and interactivity. Any software application running on the computer – web page, PowerPoint etc – will be displayed on the board. You can interact with the application on the board using your finger or a pen, or the onscreen keyboard (launch this from a button on the tray). In addition to using the pens and tray, there may be corresponding tools in the on-screen floating toolbar (a). Further functions are available via the SMART icon menu on the task bar (b) e.g. screen shade, capture and spotlight. (a) (b) These tools can be used on the desktop or over any application that is running on the computer. − Note: If the cursor does not seem to line up accurately when using a pen or your finger, you can Orient the board. See the SMART Board Interactive Whiteboard Basic Functionality document from the SMART website. 1 Full location list available on the University website University of Aberdeen :: Learners’ Toolkit :: Quick Guides The University of Aberdeen is a charity registered in Scotland, No SC013683 Reviewed: 02/06/2017 Writing at the board Writing on the desktop: When you write on the desktop with a pen or your finger, a memo note appears which extends as you write.
