Picasso Monsters
CCSS: ELA 1.L.1f
2.L.1e 3.L.1a
Picasso’s birthday is on October 25th. This project allows
students to get ready for Halloween and learn about the
famous Spanish modern artist.
1. Discuss Picasso and show examples of his art work.
2. Have students come up with adjectives to describe
Picasso’s paintings.
3. Instruct students to create their own Picasso faces. To
keep with the Halloween theme, have them make
Picasso monsters. Allow students to use crayons,
markers, and construction paper to create their
masterpieces.
4. Mount the students creations on white paper. Have
the students write descriptive words using adjectives
from the brainstorm list on the white paper border
around the monster.
5. Have students write a short story about their Picasso
monster. Students must use at least 3 of their
adjectives in their story.
6. Display the pictures and the stories in the hall. See if
others can match the story with the correct monster!
The more descriptive the students are, the easier it
will be!
