Using ADePT with example datasets: Food

Using ADePT with example datasets: Food Security
Example datasets are derived from a National Household Survey such as Living Standard Measurement Survey, Household Income and Expenditure Survey
and Household Budget Survey. The following steps explain how to use these datasets to work with the Food Security Module of ADePT.
1. Download the zipped archive on your hard drive from www.worldbank.org/adept
2. Unzip datasets into an existing or a new folder on your hard drive
3. Start ADePT; Select Food Security Module
4. On the top left part of ADePT window
4.1. press the first Select button (for Household data) and browse for the file HH.sav;
4.2. press the second Select button (for Individual data) and browse for the file HM.sav;
4.3. press the third Select button (for Food data) and browse for the file Food.sav;
4.4. press the fourth Select button (for Country data) and browse for the file Country.sav.
By now, you should have four files loaded into ADePT.
5. In the Main Form, in the low left part of the ADePT window, specify variables in the datasets you just loaded that correspond to the fields on the form1 as
follows:
5.1. fields in tabpage Household are filled with variables from the HH.sav dataset;
5.2. fields in tabpage Individual, are filled with variables from the HM.sav dataset;
5.3. fields in tabpage Food, are filled with variables from the FOOD.sav dataset;
5.4. fields in tabpage Main Factors, are filled with variables from the COUNTRY.sav dataset;
5.5. fields in tabpage Micronutrients, are filled with variables from the COUNTRY.sav dataset;
5.6. fields in tabpage Amino acids, are filled with variables from the COUNTRY.sav dataset;
5.7. fields in tabpage Parameters
5.7.1. Assuming a country with an under five mortality rate more than 10 per 1000, check the Under 5 mortality rate box;
5.7.2. Enter a Birth rate for the country;
1
Place mouse pointer into the field and drag-and-drop variables from the Variable list located on the left of ADePT window
5.7.3. Assuming a country for which the percentage of people employed in the primary sector is more than 50%, check the Employment in the
primary sector box;
5.7.4. Press the Look up all button to get the parameters used for the latest estimation of the MDG 1.9 as in the FAO-State of Food Insecurity (SOFI)
publication
6. Note that as soon as you filled the minimum required fields (those followed by an asterix) some tables in the Table tab, on the right of ADePT window,
become activated (Black).
7. You can now select all or some of the activated tables by clicking on them
8. To generate the output file press Generate button located below the list of tables
You can generate more tables if you specify more variables in the Main Form of ADePT. Refer to the table below for the mapping between the fields on the
Main Form and the variables in the National Household Survey datatasets.

There are two examples of compiled ADePT Food Security Projects to derive food security statistics:

Project xxx excludes statistics of micronutrients and amino acids; and

Project yyy includes statistics of micronutrients and amino acids.
To open the already compiled ADePT Food Security Projects:
1. Save the projects in the same folder as the example data files
2. Open one of the projects by selecting <Project> → <Open project> from the menu.
Then follow the procedure described in these instructions, starting with №6.
