World Population Day

Instead of controlling the environment for the benefit of the population,
maybe we should control the population to ensure the survival of our
environment.

World Population Day is celebrated on 11th
July
Every
year.
The
purpose
behind
celebrating the day is to create awareness
among the people towards population control,
which is most necessary for maintaining the
Ecological balance of the Universe. It was
celebrated for the fist time in 1989 by United
Nation (UN) initiative.
Since then it is
celebrated through out the World as an
awareness campaign. About 3 billion people or almost half of the world’s population
belongs to the age group of below 25. As the world is growing by leaps and bounds,
so its problems. From micro level to macro level issues of development are mostly
related to hunger, poverty, malnutrition, conflict etc. Today’s Economy’s biggest
concern is “too many people and inadequate resource”. Translating it into numbers,
the world population is approximately 670,87,00100 and growing alarmingly.
Celebration
World Population Day aims to increase people’s awareness
on various population related issues such as the importance of
family planning, including gender equality, poverty, maternal
health and human rights. The day is celebrated worldwide by
business groups, community organizations and individuals in

many ways. Activities include seminar discussions, educational information sessions
and essay competitions.
