Housing Applications
Side-to-Side Back-to-Back Fastening
Housings are manufactured with holes in the sides of the tops and bases to accept
cabinet connecting hardware (CCHI). Cabinets may be bolted together side by side
and/or back to back creating “banks” of cabinets. This application is a must when
creating mezzanine systems or a high rise cabinet system.
Stacking Arrangements
In all high-rise storage systems, each vertical column in an upper housing must line up
with the columns of the housing(s) beneath it to provide the necessary support. For
example, two Standard housings cannot be stacked on a Double Wide housing because
there are no columns in the bottom housing to support the inner columns of the upper
housings.
It is possible, on the other hand, to stack a Double Wide cabinet on two standard
housings tied together side by side. This is because the four columns of the upper
housing line up with the outer columns of the lower housings. Additionally, a center
support column is created by the inner columns of the lower housings, which helps
support the middle of the upper cabinet.

Instructions for Connecting Cabinets
Cabinet Connecting
All Stanley Vidmar Modular Drawer Cabinets MUST be anchored to the floor or
connected side-to-side or back-to-back. It will be necessary to remove the top drawer
(or drawers) to access the connecting holes. For installation of cabinets in a row,
connect cabinets side-to-side using cabinet connecting hardware and anchor each end
cabinet. For proper installation, cabinets should be shimmed to be level to within
1/16 in. in each direction. Cabinets connected back-to-back need not be anchored, but
should be shimmed to a level condition for optimum performance.
Connecting Instructions
1. Cabinets connected side-to-side must be fastened with the appropriate hardware
using the connecting holes located in the cabinet sides and bases. Cabinets
connected back-to-back must be fastened with the appropriate hardware using the
connecting holes located in the cabinet backs. To access the back and side
connecting holes, the removal of cabinet drawers will be necessary.

Instructions for Connecting Cabinets
2. Carefully remove the top drawer of each cabinet that is to be connected, as well as
any other drawers that will hamper the cabinet-connecting process.
To remove a drawer, pull drawer out until the drawer-stops catch on the carriage
cross member; lift up slightly on the drawer so the stops clear the cross member,
and then slide the drawer all the way out.
If necessary, remove the drawer carriage by pulling the carriage forward until it
stops. Disengage the carriage latches by lifting up on the catches located on the
sides of the carriage. Once disengaged, the carriage will slide all the way out.
3. Locate the appropriate connecting-hole positions on the outside of each cabinet.
(These holes are covered by bendable metal tabs that are attached to the inside of
the cabinet housing.) With a nail set or screwdriver, push the tabs inward as far as
possible.
From the inside, continue folding the tabs until the holes are uncovered and the tabs
are flush with the cabinet housing.
4. Align cabinets in their final positions on the floor and match the corresponding
cabinet-connecting holes. With CCH-1 or CCH-2 hardware, connect the cabinets as
shown in the illustrations.

5. When cabinet connection is completed, re-install any removed carriages or drawers.
To reinstall a carriage, align it on the carriage bracket and slide it into the housing.
For your own safety, after reinstalling the carriage in the carriage brackets, be sure
that the carriage latches are in their forward and down position so that the carriage
cannot roll out of the carriage brackets. To reinstall a drawer, extend the carriage all
the way out to make access easier. Hold the carriage steady and align the drawer in
the carriage. Slide the drawer in until the stops on the bottom of the drawer strike
the cross member on the carriage. Lift up slightly on the drawer so the stops clear
the cross member, and slide the drawer all the way into the housing.
