ITINERARY
Day 1 – (no meals)
Arrival into Hong Kong
You will be met by our local representative upon arrival in Hong Kong and
transferred to your hotel in Kowloon.
Day 2 – (B,L)
Day Trip to Hong Kong Island
Your day will start with a scenic drive to Hong Kong Island via the underwater
harbour tunnel, exiting onto Hong Kong Island in Central which has long been known
as the heart of Hong Kong. Head inland to Victoria Peak funicular railway. The Peak
tram is an experience, taking you up past Hong Kong Island’s skyscrapers where at
the top you’ll have views stretching across skyscrapers and Victoria Harbour all the
way to the green hills of the New Territories.
After, head further south of the Island past Repulse Bay, one of Hong Kong’s most
popular beaches, before climbing aboard a sampan boat for a closer look at the
famous Aberdeen typhoon shelters and their old-world fishing community. End
aboard the famous Jumbo floating restaurant established in 1976 as a typhoon
shelter shortly after World War II. In 1952 it was converted into the restaurant it is
today and famous for its Cantonese and Dim Sum food.
After lunch head to Stanley village located on Hong Kong Island’s south coast.
Popular with locals, expats and tourists alike, you can find a selection of accessories,
jewellery and souvenirs at reasonable prices hidden in the bazaar. Or if you prefer
take time to explore the villages’ bars and restaurants located along the
picturesque waterfront. Murray House, a Victorian-era building built in the presentday business district of Central in 1846 as officers quarters of the Murray Barracks can
be found nearby having been relocated to Stanley during the 2000s. Tin Hau
Temple, one of the oldest temples in Hong Kong is also a short walk away.
After spending time in Stanley, you’ll be taken back to your hotel in Kowloon for
some time to freshen up and relax before being met by your guide. A short evening
walk will take you to the harbour front where you can view the Symphony of Lights
show. Set around the sparkling Victoria Harbour, discover the world’s largest light
and sound show where buildings will light up and flicker to music. After the show,
your guide will walk you back to your hotel.
Day 3 - (B,L)
Day trip to Lantau Island
As Hong Kong’s largest outlying island, Lantau Island is well known among locals for
its unspoilt countryside, lush green valleys and giant outdoor Buddha Statue. You’ll
be met by your guide at the hotel for transportation to Central ferry pier and a short
ferry ride across to Mui Wo pier on Lantau Island. Visit Cheung Sha beach – one of
Hong Kong’s longest and most beautiful beaches. Drive onto Tai O fishing village,
home to the Tanka people, a community of fisher folk who have built their houses on
stilts above the tidal flats of Lantau Island for generations. These unusual structures
are interconnected, forming a tight-knit community. You’ll be taken on a guided
walking tour through the alleys allowing you to explore this interesting way of living.
Head onto Po Lin Monastery, once hidden by lush, mountain scenery and made
famous when the extraordinary Tian Tan Buddha Statue was erected in 1993. Sitting
34 metres high and facing north to look over the Chinese people, this majestic
bronze Buddha draws pilgrims from all over Asia. You’ll visit the Buddha sat atop 268
steps before having a vegetarian lunch in the Monastery – one of Hong Kong’s most
important Buddhist sanctums.
After lunch and if weather permits, you’ll descend by the Ngong Ping Cable Car – a
visually spectacular 5.7km bi-cable ropeway. You’ll enjoy some of the best views of
the distant and vast South China Sea and the rolling grassland slopes of North
Lantau Country Park. Once at the bottom you’ll be taken back to your hotel for an
evening at leisure.
Please note: the cable car is subject to close if there is bad weather and for annual
maintenance (dates for 2018 have not yet been announced)
