Final Project Menu Selection
Directions: Review the menu choices and choose an option or options for a total of 100 points.
Please note that projects should NOT be completed on notebook paper but on printer paper or
construction paper. All projects should reflect a good deal of effort and should be colored. All
words should be written in blue or black ink (no pencil allowed).
Character Interview
(75 points)
Imagine that you are a famous reporter. You have a once in a lifetime chance to interview one
of the characters from the book. Who would you interview? Come up with ten interview
questions for the character. Then answer the questions the way you think the character
would. Make sure to record your answers in blue or black ink!
Dear Diary (75
points)
Write a diary that one of the story's main characters might have kept before, during, or
after the book's events. Remember that the character’s thoughts and feelings are very
important in a diary. Include at least seven entries with five-ten sentences in each.
Comic Strip (50
points)
Choose an important scene (preferably one that deals with how a problem was solved) from the book
and put it into a comic strip. Make sure to color your illustrations and use your best handwriting in
the bubble conversations! *Use a minimum of ten panels in the strip.
Map/Timeline (50
points)
Construct a map or timeline showing the locations of important places in the story. Accuracy with five or
more locations clearly labeled is important. An alternative is to design the map to indicate something
about the plot or setting. Be sure to use your best handwriting and drawing because neatness in drawing
and writing counts.
Extra! Extra! Read All About It! (100
points)
Create a newspaper for your book. Summarize the plot in one article, cover the weather in another, do a
feature story on one of the more interesting characters in another. Include an editorial and a collection of
ads that would go along with the story.
Vocabulary Practice (25
– 50 points)
Choose five to ten vocabulary words from the list. Look up and write down the definitions. Then use each
word in a sentence that goes along with the story. Record your work in blue or black ink.
Each word is worth five points, so if you select a 50 point project, do 10 vocabulary words, and if you
select a project that is worth 75 points, then you only need to do 5 vocabulary words.
What If?
(50 points)
Create an alternate ending for the story. Suppose Dorothy did not leave Oz, or what if she took
Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion back to Kansas with her? The possibilities are endless. Write
your new ending as an additional chapter to the book. This chapter must be at least three paragraphs.
Book Report (100
points)
Create a book report that includes a brief essay comparing the book to the movie and draw a Venn Diagram
to show the comparisons. Include a three-paragraph summary of the book that includes information on
the plot, setting, characters, and conflict. And finally, choose one scene from the book and draw a
detailed picture of what happened. The report must be aesthetically pleasing and represent
knowledge of the book and movie. Each requirement must be on a separate page of printer paper or
construction paper.
Reminder: Do not use notebook paper! Record everything in blue or black ink.
