Literary Terms Final: Alternate Ending

Literary Terms Final:
Alternate Ending
Choose one of the stories we have read in class, “The Utterly Perfect Murder,” “The Cask
of Amontillado,” or “The Most Dangerous Game,” and write an alternate ending OR a
deleted scene.
The new scene/ending should be no shorter than one typed, double-spaced page and no
longer than three pages. If handwritten it should be 2-6 SINGLE-SPACED pages. You
should complete a rough draft in class and a final draft at home. The scene/ending must
make sense / fit in with the plot outline of the original story. You must use each of the
following literary devices:
Required terms:
Allusion
Characterization (3 different kinds)
Alliteration
Theme (explain at the end what it was)
Three uses of Simile
Two uses of Metaphor
One use of Personification
One use of Irony (identify which kind)
One additional complication
Five uses of imagery/sensory detail
Extra Credit/Bonus terms (not required):
Symbol
Hyperbole
All Literary devices must be underlined in your alternate ending and identified in
parentheses.
Example:
“As Marguerite read from Edgar Allen Poe the words danced on the
page“(Personification).
IF YOU DO NOT CLEARLY IDENTIFY EACH TERM,
YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT.
You will have this class period to complete a rough draft using the Literature books and
your notes (pink comprehension sheets and orange literary terms packet). From your
rough draft, revise and write a final draft either typed (1” margin, Times New Roman
or Arial 12 pt font) or in pen. Final due on the day we return from break.
