It was National Girl Scouts month in March and that meant we were having special guests to come visit us.
Lead by resident family member, Jacqui Leonard, the girls came in for a special presentation followed by a tea
and those ever so popular delicious Girl Scouts cookies. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the event and are
looking forward to another upcoming Girl Scouts event in April.

Uncle Milty Says About Music ...

4.
5.
I go to the opera whether I need to sleep or not.
Two people told me not to sing—a doctor and a musician.
My nephew went to Europe to study the violin. The neighbors sent him.
Did you notice how my voice filled the hall? I even noticed people leaving to make room for it.
My wife has a terrible voice. She sang around the house the other day and the canary threw itself to the
cat.
6. The neighbors must like my piano playing. Just last week they broke my front windows so they could hear
better.
7. It was the Irish who invented the bagpipe. A couple of years later they gave it to the Scots and told them it
was a musical instrument.
8. I used to play violin in the orchestra and each time I played I got bumps in the back of my head. I used to
sit in front of the trombone player.
9. Every morning Mrs. Feldz practiced the piano for an hour. She played with great enthusiasm.
Unfortunately she still played terribly. One day a piano tuner showed up. “I didn’t order a tuner?” she
said. “No, “ he answered, “but your neighbors did.”
10. And older man who enjoyed his retirement by reading in his garden hours on end returned with a complete
drum set borrowed from a neighbor boy. “I had no idea you played the drums,” his wife said. “I can’t,”
said the man, “and now neither can that boy.”
Punny Gardening Story
Have you cinnamon in the garden? He is the one with thyme on his hands. Some daisies pulling weeds, some
daisies just looking to see what will turnip. He is just arugula fellow but sometimes he can be a fungi. If he
needs to water the plants, the pumpkin be used. Last week the pump wooden work. Barely any water came
out. It had him stumped for a while but pretty soon he could cedar problem. They just nutmeg them like they
used to. He fixed the pump and there hasn’t banana problem since. When asked about his family, he said,
“Orchids are doing fine and olive them well. My middle one can lilac anything. I try not to pecan him but I
told him thistle have to stop. I said to him, “Deciduous selling seeds. This is what I camphor. Lettuce see
what you have. It’s people like me with cashew expect to discount. Orange you going to give me any?” He
replied, “I’m selling the seeds for only peonies a piece. Surely you can afford a few dahlias to pepper them.” I
did and when I had to leaf he called out, “I’ll be zinnia later.”
Spring Humor
Four high school boys afflicted with spring fever skipped morning classes. After lunch, they reported to the
teacher that they had a flat tire. Much to their relief she smiled and said, “Well, you missed a test today so
take your seats apart from one another and take out a piece of paper.” When the boys sat down she read them
their first question. “Which tire was flat?”
A little boy asked his father, “Dad, where did my intelligence come from?” The father replied, “Well, son,
you must have gotten it from your mother because I still have mine.”

Spring
Spring is finally here
So let’s be of good cheer
The flowers are already in bloom
We have some budding poets in this room
Spring brings sunshine and flowers
That gives us many happy hours
We see the birds in flight
This gives us much delight
Whether the day is cloudy or bright
Those Were The Days
Songs make me feel warm inside and take my life in stride
Songs make me smile and sigh and sometimes they make me cry
Songs bring back memories of childhood and family
Of broken hearts, lost sweethearts, nursery rhymes and baby times
When Shirley Temple sang “On the good ship Lollipop,”
Those were the days we got penny candy from the candy shop
I still feel warm inside remembering songs we sang
Those were the days, oh yes those were the days
Spring Has Sprung
Flowers abloom, birds singing, sharing in God’s natural beauty
Trees no longer bare, grass has riz, rain brings life to be
A time for the birthing of calves and sheep, pigs and colts to the world come too
To plant those flowers, seed those gardens and forget about feeling blue
Children laughing, fair weather’s here, birds returning north
Lightning bugs and fire flies dancing, wisteria and tulips shining forth
Barbecues and picnics remind us the ants are alive
We wondered if this year spring would really arrive
Digging for worms by the crawdad hole
Pole in hand to the pond we’ll go
Wondering where our lives would be without such daily pleasures
Remembering when we shared together the wonders of spring’s treasures

CONCIERGE TRIPS
The Tall Oaks bus is available for personal use on Mondays from 9am—1pm and Fridays
from 9am to 4pm. The bus travels within a 5 mile radius and 24 hours advanced notice is
required.
Please call the front desk to arrange for a trip. All trips must be verified by the Director of
Nursing and/or the Director of Resident Relations before they are approved.
Instead of just heading out for doctor’s appointments, the bank and running errands though,
consider trying something fun.
The Reston Community Center has many great activities and events that are available to all
Reston residents. You can even head over to the Herndon Senior Center (they charge a small
fee) or take advantage of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) which offers free classes.
For more information about each activity, and/or to see a copy of the brochures for each of
the centers, please see Jocelyn in the activity office.

Admission
Refer and Earn program at Tall Oaks Assisted Living
You can earn money by telling your friends and family about how much you like living at Tall Oaks
Assisted Living. Referrals resulting in new leases could earn you, and the referred resident, a $500 credit on
your rent. In order to qualify, the new referred resident has to give us your name and phone number at the
time of their lease signing and the resident must live here for a minimum of three (3) months. After three
months, both you and the new resident will receive a $500 credit to your accounts in the 4th month. The
number of times you can participate in the Refer and Earn program is unlimited but you must be a current
resident to participate. For more information, come see Terry Gross in the administrative offices.
Dietary
There is no better time than April to talk about life than with Passover and all the other religious holidays
coming up. A time for family to reconnect. I remember always going to my grandmother’s house on the
major holidays. You would always find my grandmother in the kitchen doing something; cooking the next
meal or just putting something together as a snack. She would never cook just for herself, but when
company would come by, she would go hog-wild, she would go all out. Here’s a fun Spring treat for you to
add to your recipe box that my grandmother made for us. Ingredients: 1 16 oz Bag Confectionery Sugar, 1
Cup Peanut butter, ¼ Cup Butter, Soft, 1 T Vanilla, 1 Cup Chocolate melted in a double-boiler, and used for
dipping. Combine all ingredients except chocolate. Roll peanut butter mixture into balls or egg shape. Dip
in liquid warm chocolate. Eat. Yum!
