Partioning Line Segments in One Dimension

Partioning Line Segments in One Dimension
The midpoint of a line segment divides, or partitions, the segment in half. The lengths have a ratio of 1:1.
Formula for Partitioning a Line Segment with a ratio of a:b
Partition – 1 Dimension
A is at 1, and B is at 7.
Find the point, T, so that T partitions A to B in a 2:1 ratio.
Partition – 1 Dimension
A is at 6 and B is at 4.
Find the point, T, so that T is A to B in a 2:3 ratio.
Partitioning Line Segments in 2 Dimensions For line segment AB with endpoints A (x1, y1) and B(x2, y2), to find the ratio of a:b, or lies k of the way from A to B. Find the point Q that partitions BA in a ratio of 1:3. Where B is (1, 5) and A is (5, 3).
Find the point Q that is 3/4 the distance from A (2, 3) to B (2, 5).
