Jesus started the Catholic Church with his
apostles and chose Peter to be its leader.
Your faith grows when you follow Jesus
with your words and actions
“You are Peter, and upon this rock
I will build my church.”

Jesus founded the Catholic Church upon his
apostles, and He chose Peter, our first Pope,
to be its head. Today, Pope Benedict is the
earthly leader of the Church. The Holy Spirit
guides the Pope in teaching faith and morals.

Jesus gave Peter the keys to the kingdom of
heaven. Pope Benedict, the successor of Saint
Peter, lives in Vatican City in Rome, and
our faith, handed down from the apostles
through him, is a priceless treasure..

of heaven. Through the Sacrament of Holy
Orders, apostolic succession is fulfilled. Pope
Benedict, the successor of St. Peter, lives in

holy people who helped it grow.
St. Peter’s Square reminds us that all are
welcome in God’s Church, and St. Peter’s
Basilica is a house of prayer. The treasures

St. Peter’s Basilica contains the Chair of St.
Peter, a statue of St. Peter, and the Pieta, a
statue of Jesus and His mother, Mary.
Relics are holy items that belonged to saints.
Jesus gives us the gift of himself in Holy
Communion.
St. Peter’s Basilica contains many treasures;
the Chair of St. Peter, statue of St. Peter, the
Pieta and more. The greatest treasure is the
Eucharist. Worship is for God alone. We honor
the saints as champions of our faith. The
Apostles’ Creed is a statement of our beliefs.

The Pope lives in the Apostolic Palace protected by the Swiss Guard. The Sistine Chapel
is famous and is where a new Pope is elected.
The Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles
on Pentecost giving them the power to spread
the Gospel. The Holy Spirit will help you share
your faith.
