Thanksgiving story Thanksgiving story 1) A group of 102 people, called the Pilgrim Fathers, in September 1620 sail from England on a ship called “The Mayflower”. The Indians help the Pilgrims to build houses, to cultivate corn, potatoes, and pumpkins and to hunt turkeys and deer. 3) After a good harvest, the Pilgrims thank the Indians. They make a feast and invite the Indians. They eat turkeys, corn, pumpkins, potatoes, and fish. It is November 1621 and the feast lasts three days. 4)The Americans still celebrate this feast on Thanksgiving Day, on the fourth Thursday in November with a big Thanksgiving dinner and they eat roast turkey, potatoes, cranberry jam and pumpkin pie.
