MEMBERSHIP AND MARKETING MANAGER Summary The Genetics Society of America (GSA) is expanding its staff by recruiting a Membership and Marketing Manager, who will lead GSA and American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) efforts to expand and serve the two societies’ membership. GSA and ASHG are nonprofit societies who are leaders in the growing field of genetics and have a combined total of 11,000 members. The Membership and Marketing Manager will work closely with staff colleagues, the Membership Committee(s), and Society leaders to promote the societies’ relationship with members and potential members and design and implement strategies to increase member recruitment and retention. The ideal candidate will bring nonprofit society membership management experience with a particular focus on membership-related marketing or communications. Major duties and responsibilities • • • • • • • • • • Manages annual Society membership cycle Coordinates and helps design membership marketing communications to current, new, former, and prospective members Develops and implements strategies for member recruitment and retention, including ways to promote the societies and enhance member value Monitors, analyzes, and reports on membership trends and statistics Works with IT to determine key membership stats to track and monitors data to determine resultant response required, if any Coordinates efforts to reach out to members, potential members, and former members Coordinates efforts to survey members and other stakeholders in support of recruitment, retention, and development of new member services Serves as staff liaison to Society Membership Committee(s) Manages and develops membership partnership programs with peer organizations Manages membership booth and related activities at conferences and other venues • • Respond to inquiries from members by e-mail and phone; resolve member questions and concerns Travel to meetings and events (approximately 10–15% of time) Expected qualifications • • • Bachelor’s degree 2–4 years experience in membership, marketing, etc. (non-profit sector preferred) Experience extracting information from databases for data analysis The position is based at GSA/ASHG headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland.
