Kindergarten ABC`s

Janet Johnstone Kindergarten
An Alphabet Orientation
Aa-Attendance and Absences
If your child is sick and cannot attend, please call the
office at 777-8670 and leave a message.
If your child is late, he or she must stop in the office
with a parent/guardian to check in before coming to the
classroom.
Bb- Birthdays
We love celebrating with the children on their special day.
Please feel free to bring in any healthy peanut/nut free
treat to share with the class. Some examples of this
would be cheese and crackers or a fruit tray.
Cc- Curriculum
We follow the Kindergarten curriculum outlined in the
program of studies mandated by Alberta Learning. The
Immersion program follows the same curriculum but is
delivered in French.
Dd- Dismissal and Arrival
A letter containing all necessary information about
dismissal and arrival times will be mailed out in June.
Ee- Everyone is Special
Everyone is special, therefore, “I will not hurt others”, “I
will not hurt myself”, and “I will not hurt anyone’s
property”.
Ff- Fieldtrips
We are planning to arrange a fieldtrip or two throughout
the year. Volunteers will be integral to their success.
Gg- Great Learning
Kindergarten is full of exciting and authentic learning. We
want to inspire their curiosity and extend their knowledge
through centres and play based activities.
Hh- Homework
Talk to your child every night about their learning. Ask
them specific questions like, “What centre did you enjoy
today? What stories did you read today?
Enjoy reading stories to your child on a daily basis.
Ii- Independence
We are encouraging independence in our students.
You can help us by:
- Saying good-bye to your child at the outside doors when
the Kindergarten teachers arrive.
- Pick up your child outside these same doors at dismissal
time.
- If the weather is poor, please feel free to wait inside
these doors. If you see a blue sign on the outside door this
tells you it is a “Blue Day” and children are welcome to wait
inside the doors.
Jj- Journals
Students will be given journals to explore early literacy
(colouring, drawing, letter formations, printing, etc.).
Kk- Kindergarten
A most important year in your child’s experience of
learning.
Ll- Label
LABEL, LABEL, LABEL everything that comes to school
with your child. Your child’s name needs to be on
everything (i.e. mittens, hats, scarves, coats, backpack
and boots).
Mm- Memories
We will be making lots of photo memories throughout the
year!
Nn- Newsletters
Calendars are sent home at the beginning of each month.
Look for important dates to mark on your home calendar.
Also look for the newsletter that is available online.

Rr- Report Cards and Parent Conferences

You will be notified when the conferences will be held.

at the beginning of the year. Details can be found in the
kindergarten information package.
Ss- Snacks and Supplies
The Nutritious snack program will begin on the first full
day and students are encouraged to bring in nutritious
snacks like, crackers, cheese, fruit, small muffins, etc..
Due to severe allergies do not send snacks containing
any peanuts/nuts.
All school supplies needed for the classroom are provided
through your school fee. Please ensure your child has a
large backpack to carry library books and important
notices. This bag needs to be brought daily.
Each student is requested to leave a pair of indoor
running shoes that they can put on independently at
school to be worn during class time.
Tt- Toys
We ask that children do not bring toys to school as this
can sometimes cause problems or they can become lost.
The children will have opportunities to share special items
with their classmates. More information will be sent
home at a later date.
