Our Mission
The Christmas Box International, in partnership with local, national, and international communities and groups,
provides assistance to prevent child abuse and services to improve the quality of life for children who
have been abused or neglected.
The Christmas Box International (CBI) was founded in 1996 by
New York Times best-selling author of The Christmas Box, Richard
Paul Evans. Annually more than 6,000 children locally, nationally,
and internationally are served by The Christmas Box International.
Our motto is simple:
every child deserves a childhood
Our programs
Christmas Box Houses
Lifestart Initiative
These short-term emergency shelters assist 1,700
children annually who are removed from their homes
due to abuse and neglect. There are three Christmas
Box Houses in Utah – Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Moab.
This project was created to counteract statistics which
report 60% of youth who age out of foster care will be
either incarcerated, homeless, or dead within two years.
The Lifestart Initiative provides resources and support
for teens as they make the transition to adult living
including:
Christmas Box Resource Rooms
Provide in-kind donations for at-risk children and youth
in communities including clothing, shoes, diapers,
school supplies, bedding, books, toys, duffel bags and
hygiene items.
Project Elf
Gifts are collected statewide to help make the
holiday season brighter
for more than 1,000
children statewide.
• The Mentor Project – connects youth with mentors
and provides access to resources such as education,
housing, employment, medical and dental services
and mental health services
• Lifestart Boxes – kits filled with new household
items for their first home on their own
• Youth Summits – Partners with regions across the
state in providing summits for teens in foster care
International Projects
CBI provides resources to at-risk children in countries
such as Uganda, Zimbabwe, India, Haiti, Taiwan, Peru,
Ecuador, the Philippines, the Congo and Mexico.

The possibilities are endless...and that’s the best part! The Kids Helping Kids program challenges YOU to get
creative in putting together the best fundraising strategy possible. We know the power of students who care;
here’s an example:
In 2013, a local high school dedicated the month of December to hosting events and volunteering to
collect donations on our behalf. Each year, they choose one charity and rally entire legions of students,
teachers, business owners and community leaders to support their cause. And it works! They raised a
record amount for their school, thousands of dollars to help children in their community who are victims
of abuse, neglect or abandonment.
What we have learned is that there is no one way to help raise money for a worthwhile cause. Rather, there
are many ways to do small acts that can add up quickly. Challenge your classmates, teachers and communties
to get involved too. Here’s a short list of ideas to get you started:
Candygrams
Donate your time
Pay to cosplay
battle of the bands
This tried and true classic takes a small amount of
advertising and a sweet tooth. Students pay to send
their messages to friends. Delivery times may vary.
Whether it’s a classic Star Wars Sith, some steampunk
inventions or an obscure Doctor Who reference,
students can buy a “get-out-of-normal-clothes” card
with the added bonus of a mini-ComicCon in the halls.
snow ball classic
We mean that in the best way possible. Did you know
that in Seattle, thousands of people gathered to participate in the world’s largest snowball fight while raising
tens of thousands of dollars for charity. They even broke
a world record for the largest snowball fight.
food for thought
Partner with businesses in your community to host fun
events off campus. Many restaurants will work with
student groups to donate a portion of sales to your
fundraiser. All that’s left to do is get the word out. All it
takes is approaching the manager of a popular nearby
spot and asking. And just to get you started, here are a
couple of popular chains: California Pizza Kitchen, Texas
Road House, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chick-fil-A.
concerts and shows
Events are a great way to give something back while still
fundraising...and there are plenty of different ways to
use your high school auditorium to do so. Book a local
band or put on a movie screening where you can sell
tickets.
Consider volunteering. Get a group together and canvas
neighborhoods offering to complete small odd jobs for
donations.
Charge admission and sell refreshments for a concert or
battle of the bands featuring your school’s students.
clubs compete
Ask for support from the clubs and sports teams at your
school to see if they would be willing to host an event
alongside your efforts. This could be anything from a
school assembly with performances, a special concert
or even a lunchtime activity calling for small donations
such as date auctions, a twist on powder puff or trivia.
chuck your change
Hold a competition between grades and see who can
collect the most change over the course of a week, a
month or even a single assembly. A front and center
display of how well each class is doing, can help spur on
your classmates.
A better bake sale
Who doesn’t love some deliciously prepared baked
goods? Frosting or sprinkles or both, there’s nothing like
a bake sale to attract donations. To take it to the next
level try different items for a week during lunch break,
popular food stuffs such as hot chocolate, popcorn balls
or churros.
