Stones Hotel lounge and chat and share. Have a yap ‘n yarn, tak’a peep,
and have a tea and biscuit! The RSPB will have a table of crafty things to
explore and Neil Leask and Pat Long, Peter Leith and a few others will
have some very interesting crafts to chat about. Christopher Gee will be
demonstrating Neolithic stone working on the grounds.

31) THE FELT BIRDS OF PAPAY,
a 3 day event in and around Beltane House
a) Friday 29th:11am-5pm. Led by Julian Branscombe, race to count
different bird species. COST: £10 per person, max 8 (bring lunch; tea /coffee
provided)
b) Saturday 30th: 10am – 4pm. with the felters of Papay, create a felting of
each bird found the previous day. Cost: £30 per person, all welcome, lunch
provided.
Also on Saturday 30th: evening. Attend the Great Auction of Felted
Birds; proceeds split between RSPB and the Papay Development Trust.
WORKING HANDS- CELEBRATING CRAFTING SKILLS ON WESTRAY:
No booking necessary. Based in the Community hall from 1.30 – 4.30. All
ages welcome to attend all events FREE. Demonstrations will include stone
carving, tapestry weaving, wood turning, traditional skills and spinning.
There will be some hands-on activities with quick and easy craft projects ,

During this dinner there will be a presentation to
a previously unrecognised person for the first of a
series of KNACKIE HANDED AWARDS, to celebrate
outstanding contribution to the traditional craft
life of Orkney. Laldie Haans seeks ultimately to
create a sculptural wall of talented Orcadian hands.
The recognized people will have their handprints
impressed in a clay tile. These tiles will be on
display at the Standing Stones Hotel, in the Heart
of Neolithic Orkney until a site is found for their
permanent installation. Please feel free to nominate
an individual of your choice for the 2017 Laldie

2a) AM: Use recycled papers to create collage; embellish With mono
printing, drawing, texturing, layering, mosaic and weaving to make effective

FAIR ISLE KNITTING

Kep, used for barter with passing ships over the centuries and now, in the
21st century, a functional and fashionable item. A tradition revived for the Tall

you will create a small basket by the end of the day. Learn how to find the

21b) Memory Quilting. Learn simple techniques of quilting and create
