TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE
By: Tim Shoemaker
When it comes to internet shopping, that quest for a
good deal can cost you much more than you bargained
for. Most people have become wary enough not to buy
or sell on open source bulletin boards like Craigslist
and we all know about the fake products sometimes
sold on Amazon at a “fraction of the price” found in
stores, but an increasing number of online thieves
have learned to take advantage of even savvy online
shoppers. Many hopeful kids and Christmas shoppers
INTERNATIONAL WINE & CHEESE
EVENT
By: Carlos Guzmán
Our popular International Wine and Cheese event will
be held on Friday, March 24th at 7:00PM, at the
Mount Tabor Fire Department on the second floor.
This year we will have two guest speakers from the
Parsippany Police Department- Lt. Keith Leffers

were recently cheated out of hundreds of dollars after
they purchased Hoverboards from a popular website.
While searching for the best buy, they were attracted
to a very normal looking Google Ad with a very
attractive purchase price. Upon clicking the link, they
arrived at a very normal looking website, with
testimonials and 5 star product ratings. Only after
shelling out $300 and waiting weeks for their
purchase to arrive, did they realize that they had been
swindled. What’s more, the theft did not just include
their money, but their identity as well -because they
had submitted it all on the order form.

continues to be strong because of your patronage.
The bad guys have found that it is worth the time and
expense to set up nice websites and even pay for
legitimate ads, all in an effort to lure a large number
of bargain savvy shoppers to willingly divulge their
precious purchasing details. Fake credit accounts and
bank accounts are then floated, yielding thousands of
dollars for the techy thieves.
BLOCK CAPTAINS
To avoid these disappointments, stick to reputable
major online retailers. Only make online purchases
using credit cards instead of debit cards. Research
your credit cards dispute policy ahead of time, as
some are much better to their customers than others.
And of course, never forget the age old wisdom, “If it
seems too good to be true, it probably is.” Shop safely
my friends.

UPDATE ON MACK CALI BUSINESS COMPLEX/APARTMENTS
BY: CARLOS GUZMAN, SCA PRESIDENT
Dear Neighbors and Friends:
On Tuesday January 24th, 2017 at the town`s regular council meeting, the Sedgefield Civic
Association, Glacier Hills and the Brooklawn Association approached our town representatives
once again to ask them on the subject of what Mack-Cali`s intentions are in its Parsippany
Business complex on Littleton road. The following was my presentation in the three minutes
allowed:
********************
“As President of the Sedgefield Civic Association, it is my duty------ as all neighborhood
association representatives in this township, and it`s executive board, to keep our residents
informed of any and all positive and/or negative topics- that could affect us all as tax payers,
homeowners and/or renters.
Now, that being said, The Mack Cali Realtors, investors and its residential builder has
emphasized over and over in news media`s and on their own website-- their intentions to
repurpose their empty business buildings and lots in order to expand on its multi-family
apartment operations in the northeast. The Mack Cali Corporation has approached our town
on their interest of re-converting the Parsippany Business Center –to include apartments and
high end retails and restaurants, of which this council, planning board and zoning board must
first approve.
We are deeply concerned! At least 5 of our towns` prominent communities will be affected
adding more Traffic-pollution, crime, taxes, and even response time to emergency vehicles.
When you drive around the outer perimeter of this complex it is about 4 1/2 miles…including the
East Hanover Township--The equivalent to a small town in the United States. If this town
approves their request, the Mack Cali Corporation will have the freedom to build many huge
single buildings of multi apartments to include retails and restaurants.
Presently- at 1515 Route 10 East (Without any input from the surrounding communities) —this
town is already working on the approval for at least 190 or more apartments with high-end retail
stores and restaurants. There are many other apartment sites being considered or already built in close proximity to this Parsippany Business center-- not only by this township but in
Morristown, Morris Plains and Hanover.
This would not only be irresponsible but also reckless for Parsippany to venture down this path.
Where is the win/win on this??? Other than for those special interest groups who are only
interested in lining their own pockets at the expense of the good citizens of Parsippany.
Remember that you are responsible for the livelihood of each resident of this town even those
1 of 2
that live on the other side of from you. We ask that you as our elected officials make an
intelligent and informed decision.”
********************
Council President Louis Valori and the town attorney Mr. John Inglesino denied that the
Mack-Cali Realtors, investors or any of its residential builders has approached anyone
representing the Parsippany Township, directly or indirectly by verbal or written conversations
with Mack-Cali, or their affiliated companies, regarding the re-energizing, development, or
construction of housing, retail space or restaurants in areas presently zoned for office space in the
Mack-Cali tract off of Route 202, Littleton Road, formerly known as the Prudential tract-----Mr.
Inglesino also stated “We do not know what Mack Cali will do or would like to do in its
Business complex. It is their prerogative”
