About Minimbah
Background
Minimbah was opened in 1983 by a group
of parents who previously operated the
Karonga Special School. They recognised
that there were few appropriate facilities for
school leavers with high support needs and
went on to establish a day program in
Marsfield. They named this service Minimbah- “a place of learning”.
Minimbah operates in purpose built facilities and has a fleet of specialty vehicles to
enhance community access and social inclusion for all service users.
During weekdays, Minimbah provides a
Community Participation Service for over
fifty (50) people with intellectual and other
disabilities requiring high, very high and
exceptional levels of support.
Minimbah also operates Saturday Care for
school aged young people with an intellectual disability.
Our objectives are to:
Saturday Care
Saturday Care is a respite and recreational program
for ten young people. The program operates on alternate Saturdays and every Saturday during the mid
year school holidays. The hours of operation are
9:30am—4:30pm.
Saturday Care caters to young school aged people
who have a severe or profound intellectual disability
and need high levels of assistance with activities for
daily living. Young people with physical as well as intellectual disabilities are welcome in the program.
 Provide young people with disability with a quality
recreational programme in a safe and supportive
environment
 Offer a wide range of community and centre based
activities
 Provide respite to families to allow for time to pur-
sue other responsibilities
 The program may also assist young people with
the transition to full time enrolment of Minimbah
in their later years
Saturday Care is conducted by qualified and experienced staff under the direction of Minimbah Management.
We work with each client, their family and carers to
identify personal goals for engagement in Saturday
Care activities.
