Quiz Thursday, January 21st
Aims 50 - 54
Do Now
What is the additive inverse of 5?
What is the additive inverse of -3?
What does the word "eliminate" mean?
Solving a System of Equations using Elimination
Ex #1:
5x - 6y = -32
3x + 6y = 48
1) Find additive inverses in
order to eliminate one of
the variables.
2) Add the equations and
solve for one variable.
3) Solve for the other
variable by substituting
4) Check solution in both
original equations.
Ex #2:
8x + 6y = 30
8x - 9y = 15
Hint: Find the additive
inverse!
Ex #3:
3y + 5x = 2
y-x=6
Ex #4:
4x + 3y = 30
2x + y = 12
