What: Helping to beautify and care for your neighborhood by cleaning up litter that clutters up your local park. Why: While a park clean-up is a wonderful environmentally friendly project, it also helps contribute to an overall atmosphere of care in your community. It’s great to be considerate about the places that you and your neighbors frequent -- especially when you have little humans running around in the area. Help keep your community clean and safe! How: 1. Contact your park district/council o You may only need to do this if you’re working at a larger park. Give a heads up in case you may need a permit or liability document. You’ll find that the park may even provide the cleaning equipment, support on the day-of with disposal, and assist with outreach within the park department to spread the word. 2. Pick a date and time - coordinate with your other volunteers 3. Have some freebies or snacks handy for volunteers (it’s an added incentive to participate) 4. Promote your clean-up o Create a few informational flyers to pass around and post up in your neighborhood. Think about posting in local businesses, on bulletin boards and in mailboxes. 5. The clean-up! Arrive early and prepare the clean-up equipment - and snacks - for volunteers. Remember to have some spare equipment on hand in case other community members want to join in on the fun. o The most necessary equipment for the clean-up will be a few plastic bags, or large buckets for a more sustainable option, and some rubber gloves to keep hands clean. o After you’ve made some new friends and your bags are stuffed, make sure you dispose of the trash properly in nearby bins. Enjoy your clean park and have a wonderful day volunteering! Want to be spotlighted?
