View our Bulletin Online: www.sanalbino.org Established 1852 Minor Basilica Status Granted June 21, 2008 Basilica Dedicated November 1, 2008 From the Deacon’s Desk This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. In today’s first reading of the book of Exodus God self discloses his own qualities, “the Lord, the Lord, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity.” In the second reading of the 2nd letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians we read the greeting we hear at the beginning of every mass; “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.” The Holy Trinity is invoked with this greeting. In the Gospel of John, we find that so immense the love of God is for us that, “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” Being aware of how merciful God is, makes me feel a sense of gratitude for His love for me and all human beings. It is also very humbling. To think that such an allpowerful, majestic, and immense God (just to name a few attributes of His omnipotence) can have such a small, lowly, imperfect me in his loving heart. How He watches over me, and knows all about me since before I was born! The most awesome fact is that He is all merciful and died for each and every one of us in this planet! He died for every single person so that we may have life and have it abundantly now and in heaven. How does God express His love for us? It may be different for each one of us; but if we pay attention and “count our blessing” we can clearly see God’s love manifested through every day occurrences in our lives. For me, I see the Love of God manifested in every single person beginning with my family, friends, my family in Christ here at San Albino and throughout the dioceses and the whole world. When they are happy, I am happy, when they suffer I too feel the pain for them. I see God manifested in creation, our beautiful mountains which I cannot ignore every single day, and which I am so happy to return to when I have been traveling. I see Him in everything He gives me, all the material, but most of all in all the spiritual gifts He has given me. I also see Him in times of suffering and illnesses, when I am down and do not have answers to problems, I see Him there helping me and carrying me through it all; good and difficult times. Someone once told me “I know God is near me, but I don’t see him or feel him, I want for Him to touch me, to hug me, to really let me know He is near”. Perhaps many of us have experienced what this person was vocalizing; but I think that every time a person gives us a smile, a hug, a pat on the back, even a simple handshake or approving look it is Our Lord giving us that affection through that person. I believe it is so, that is why it is so critical that we show our affection for others, and that we affirm others positively with these gestures, because by receiving the Holy Eucharist we become Christ among others. If we do not take Him to those who need Him, who is going to do it? Let’s then evangelize others by giving them the love that God has for each and every one of us! Sacrament of Baptism Worshiping with us at Mass is a time to spiritually prepare both you and your family for the Sacrament of Baptism. Parents who are registered in the parish desiring and planning baptism for their child are to come by the office to register for baptism classes. Pre-baptism classes are required for both parents and Godparents. Godparents must have received the sacrament of Confirmation and, if married, married in the Roman Catholic Church and be receiving Holy Communion regularly. Only one Godparent is necessary. If two (2), then male and female are required. Please come by the office to register for baptism classes. Two consecutive classes are required. Classes are offered in English only. The next classes are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 24 and Monday Oct..30, 2017. Please call the office to register. THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK Jesus came to heal the whole person, body and soul. In the Church's Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, through the ministry of the priest, it is Jesus who touches the sick to heal them from sin – and sometimes even from physical ailment. His cures were signs of the arrival of the Kingdom of God. The core message of his healing tells us of his plan to conquer sin and death by his dying and rising. The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. A careful judgment about the serious nature of the illness is sufficient. When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given, the hoped-for effect is that, if it be God's will, the person be physically healed of illness. But even if there is no physical healing, the primary effect of the Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age. Each first Friday of the month, this Sacrament is offered during the 9:00 a.m. Mass at the Basilica of San Albino. If you are in need of the Anointing of the Sick , or know someone who is, you are invited to join us or bring those who would like to have the Anointing but cannot bring themselves, to Mass on Friday, July 7, 2017. Sacrament of Holy Matrimony Regular Mass attendance is an important spiritual preparation for your wedding in the Church. Please contact the office for an appointment at least EIGHT MONTHS prior to your possible wedding date. Only after this meeting may a tentative date be discussed.
