This week’s topic: Emily Dickenson’s poem:
Some keep the Sabbath going to church
I keep it staying at home
with a bobolink for a chorister
and an orchard for a dome.
Some keep the Sabbath in surplice
I just wear my wings
And instead of tolling the bell for church
Our little sexton sings.
God preaches – a noted clergyman –
and the sermon is never long
so instead of getting to heaven at last
I’m going all along.

Images And Words For Holy Week
Holy Week: the events of this one week, from Palm Sunday through the
Saturday Easter Vigil culminate in Easter, the centre and turning point
of the whole Church Year.
Palm Branches: an ancient symbol of victory.
Branches of the palm tree were regarded as
sacred. Palm branches were waved triumphantly
as Jesus entered Jerusalem
Loaf and cup; Jesus shared bread and wine with
his disciples during the Last Supper.
Crown of Thorns; made by soldiers and placed
on Jesus’ head as a cruel joke on the "King of the
Jews" while he was in Pilate's charge.
Hosanna A Hebrew expression meaning, "Lord, save us!”
In the ancient Jewish festival of Tabernacles, it is a
shout of jubilation with thoughts that the Lord
will appear to save us. So it was that in Jesus,
God came to save us.
