What is PFLAG?
Parents, Families and Friends of
Lesbians and Gays is a national
support,
education
&
advocacy
organization for gay, lesbian bisexual
& transgender (LGBT) people, their
families, friends & allies. With 200,000
members & supporters, & local affiliates
in more than 500 communities across
the U.S. & abroad, PFLAG is the largest
grassroots-based family organization of
its kind
What does PFLAG do?
PFLAG supports LGBT people, their
families & friends through local PFLAG
chapter help-lines, support group
meetings, & local and national resources.
PFLAG educates families and provides
public education on sexual orientation,
gender identity & LGBT issues. PFLAG
chapters educate their communities
through a variety of local projects.
Nationally PFLAG provides fair &
accurate information about LGBT
people & their loved ones, & advocates
for equal rights for gay, lesbian,
bisexual
&
transgender
people.
Locally, PFLAG activists work for
change in their communities. Nationally,
PFLAG staff & leaders lobby for
fairness & acceptance.

Moving equality forward...
PFLAG of Ithaca-Cortland was started
In 1986 in Ithaca. The Cortland group
Was incorporated into the Ithaca Chapter
In 2004. Currently PFLAG meetings are
being held in Cortland.
We provide:
•A welcoming space for gay, lesbian,
bisexual, & transgender people, their
families & friends.
•Opportunity for dialogue about
sexual orientation & gender identity.
•A lending library consisting of
books, pamphlets, & audio visual
materials about sexuality, parenting,
coming out, & religious issues.
•A speaker’s group of volunteers who
will visit schools, colleges, & other
organizations to talk about PFLAG,
family issues, sexual orientation, and
gender identity.
•A web site providing links to local
& national resources, as well as news,
for LGBT’s and their families and
friends.
PFLAG is a nonprofit organization and is not
affiliated with any religious or political institution
Who are PFLAG’s members?
Our members come from all backgrounds
and occupations. We are straight, we are
gay, we are bisexual. We are
transgender. We are moms and dads,
siblings, grandparents, aunts & uncles,
friends, children & allies. We come from
large cities and small towns. We live in
rural areas. We are people of color. We
come from all economic backgrounds.
We come from all faith traditions. We
are disabled. We are youth & we are
elderly. Our membership our leadership
are diverse. What we have in common
is our commitment to grow beyond false
& harmful perceptions of LGBT people.
To educate our communities, & to stand
up for full equal rights & protections for
LGBT people.
Meetings are held the first Sunday of
the month* at 4PM, at the Interfaith
Center, SUNY Cortland, corner of
Calvert St. & Graham Ave.
*No meetings are held in July or August. Our September
meeting is held the 1st Sunday after Labor Day
