literary character day - Next Generation STEAM Academy

LITERARY CHARACTER DAY
NextGeneration STEAM Academy is excited to announce that Literary Character
Day will be held on Friday, October 30, 2015! This special day's purpose is to
celebrate, draw attention to, and promote the importance of reading. Each child has the
opportunity to dress up to look like a character from one of his or her favorite books. We
are asking that students NOT come as characters based on a television show (Sponge
Bob, etc.), and please NO WEAPONS (swords, knives, etc.) or full-faced masks. We
also ask that students do not wear costumes expressing too much blood and/or gore.
Characters from books that were later made into a movie or television series are
acceptable (Winnie the Pooh, Disney Stories, Charlotte's Web, etc.). Other ideas: Dress
as an inspirational or historical figure. If you are unsure of a character, please ask your
child's teacher. On the next page we have included a list of possible characters/books
that you may find helpful. All characters MUST be modest and appropriate for a school
setting.
Since this is not a Halloween dress up day, your support in helping to choose
an appropriate character/outfit is most appreciated.
Parents are invited and encouraged to join our Literary Character Day event as
well (with or without costume). Come and enjoy the Parade of Literary Characters
on the playground in the morning at 9:00 a.m.
We encourage you to help make October 30th a fun and memorable day for your
child by participating in Literary Character Day 2015! Help us to promote the joy of
reading!
Students may wear whatever costume
they want on the evening of the Fall
Festival.
