Dear Student and Parent:
Welcome to Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions (DeBakey High School). We know that your four
years with us will be a great educational experience and will provide your child a solid foundation for college and
university study. We have many great things in store for your child as they begin high school.
Our teachers are student‐centered, caring instructors who make the school an enjoyable place for students to learn
and grow. The staff sets high expectations for all students and provides dynamic lessons to help them reach their highest
potential. These highly trained professionals will work collaboratively to provide a productive, positive learning
environment.
Our level of success is well known which has been determined by the partnership of all of us; parents, staff, and
students, working together as a team. Our top priority is academic success for your child. We will keep you informed
throughout the year with progress reports, report cards, and phone messages. In addition, you may sign up on Parent
Student Connect (PSC) on the HISD website so that you can view grades and access our website for school information,
staff contacts and course assignments for your child at any time. We truly believe that an involved parent is one of the
most important aspects of the school year. Please feel free to contact us and get involved!
As each student begins their first year into high school we know that it can be challenging. Therefore, we hope to
work with all parents to help ease this transition. Students are expected to attend school every day, complete all
assignments, and assume responsibility for their education. Nonetheless, the four years will be exciting and filled with
many new friends, experiences and opportunities. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call the
school. The administrative team, counselors, magnet coordinator, and instructors are here to help you.
Enclosed you will find very important information. Read all items carefully and add the important dates to your
calendar.
Thank you for choosing DeBakey HSHP. We are looking forward to four wonderful years together!
Cordially,
Agnes Perry
