Although the team knew of their capabilities, the boys put in their best efforts against a strong team. However, despite their attempts, the opposition was too strong who pulled away with win. Nathan Nardella, Hugo Mitchell, Sean Quinn A convincing win for SKC. SKC won every game that they played against a Wesley side which, while short on numbers, was a competent and determined opponent. As the team gains more experience in doubles matches, their ability to cooperate is steadily improving. Vincent Luc Despite a strong effort from SKC, the Haileybury side managed to come away with a comprehensive victory. Special mention must go to Vincent Luc for a stunning and nail biting win over a very clearly experienced opponent. Josh Lopez, Alex Le The 9/10B’s came up against a very strong Hailebury outfit on Saturday only managing to come away with two wins. At 4/19 SKC were in trouble until 2 excellent partnerships for the 5th and 6th wicket Michael Parsons 67 not out, Sam Milne 67, 6 dec/ 179 & 4/45 to 173 & 7 dec 156 steered home a strong win. Declarations were made to hopefully Tom Sudano 5 wickets across two innings ensure a t20 type run chase, but unfortunately this did not eventuate in the end. A fantastic revival from the SKC middle order got our innings back on track after we began the day with a top order collapse. After being sent in to bat, the SKC top order were in trouble early at 3/8 and 4/20 soon after. A solid partnership between Sam Lake and Finn O'Sullivan steadied the side and got the SKC innings going again. Di Paolo (54) and Tim Graham (75*) saw a quick resurrection of the SKC innings and put us in a commanding position, pushing toward a total in excess of 200. A cameo from Hanrahan (20) and the continued power hitting Batting: Tim Graham 76*, Di Paolo 54, from Tim Graham saw the SKC 2nd XI put on a healthy total of 251 O'Sullivan 34. Bowling: Joe Lee 3/18, Serpell SKC 8/251 d WC 125 runs. This was an outstanding effort given the position we were in 2/22, Gray 2/1 earlier in the day. The Wesley College run chase started slowly and there was little intent to score. However, the WC batsmen were playing defensively which made it hard get a breakthrough. After being unable to get a wicket for 25 overs, some inspired bowling from Joe Lee and debutant Hamish Serpell saw the opening wickets falls and the start of the Wesley collapse. Max Gray would clean up the tail with impressive figures of 2/1. The Wesley innings finishe 125 runs short after they were dismissed after 42.5 overs. 4ths 10B Best Performers SKC 4/177 d GC 97 Batting: Jack Rawlings 51 n.o. Alex Oswald 25. SKC needed the middle and lower order to contribute another 20 runs. We fielded and bowled well but Xavier reached the target with one over to spare. A fantastic display by the SKC batsmen set up a dominant victory against XC. Openers put up a quick fire 50 followed by a strong effort from Middle order. Bowlers bowled tight line and length, backed up by some sharp catching and fileding resulting in 4 R/outs . Overall it was a comprehensive win Travelling down to Geelong, SKC elected to bat first on a good wicket. The innings once again started off shaky, with 4 wickets lost for very little after 15 overs. A solid partnership developed by Harry Moore and Daniel Ferraro put SKC back into the drivers seat and marching along towards a big score. At the end of the innings, Daniel Ferraro combined excellently with Rex Stucki to push the total to 226. Ferraro finished with an exceptional 107 not out at the end of 50 overs. With the opposition adopting a cautious approach to the run chase, SKC's bowlers found it hard to take wickets even though the required run rate for the opposition became unattainable. Some excellent middle order bowling by Oliver Bilston and Patrick Croagh saw some crucial wickets fall. Geelong College finished their innings 90 runs short of the SKC total. A fantastic display by the SKC batsmen set up a dominant victory against Geelong College. Opener Jack Duncan led the way with a half century, manipulating the field with hard running between the wickets. He was well supported by Ethan Clark (21) and Jack Byrne (20). A late partnership for the 5th wicket of 46 off just 16 deliveries between Jack Norris and Lachlan Collopy who made use of the short boundaries saw the run rate to soar over 6.5 per over. St Kevin's posted 4/177 from just 27 overs. Regular Geelong wickets, led by spinners Jack Duncan (3/5) and Patrick Fewster (2/16) as well as Matthew Griggs (2/15), ensured the victory for SKC, bowling out Geelong College for 97. 10C 9A 9B J.Penrose A.Klupacs D.George T.Wright Xavier College Carey Grammar Xavier College W W W 9C P.Rawson WC Prahran W 8A J.Taylor Melbourne GS W 8B R.Thomas Scotch College W 3/86 to 83 - won by 7 wickets 206 to 9/146 113/9 to 108/10 6/127 to 8/90 7/110 to 8/90 Bowling - Jordan Moran 5 wickets for 4 runs. Luca Catanzariti 2 wickets for 11 runs. Batting - Jordan Moran 29 n.o., Xavier Shanley 21 n.o., Zach Simonsz 24 n.o. A resounding and much needed victory for SKC against ecclesiastical and scholastic rivals Xavier. St Kevin's bowled with discipline, zeal and venom to take three early wickets, but Xavier batted themselves out of a hole until Jordan Moran took the game by the scruff of the neck with a thrilling 5-for and an economy that would make even China blush. Once the Xavier tail had been mopped up it was Moran again who dazzled with boundaries aplenty in a swashbuckling innings as SKC chased down the runs quickly. Following the enforced retirement of Best On Ground Moran, it was down to Xavier Shanley with a captain's innings and his partnership with the patient Zach Simonsz also hitting the ball well to hunt down the bulk of the remainders. In the end it was James Heenatimulla who struck off the remaining runs for the 10C/5th XI's first victory of the season. Though some wickets were gifted more cheaply than the unwanted items at an unpopular car boot sale and our bowling was, at times, wider than the Tasman Sea, SKC should take pride and solace in the fact that they dominated their opposition and won the game convincingly. Batting- Ben griffin 103, Xander Dietze 28, Matthew Dimattina 21, Scott Meagher 18, Ryan Driscoll 10 Bowling- Anthony Wilks 2/ 17, Ben Walling 2/26, Matthew Hillas 2/27 SKC won the toss and batted. Ben Griffin, recently promoted from the Bs, constructed a patient but hard hitting innings reaching his century just before the final overs. it was a chanceless innings that proved that concentration is key to remaining at the crease. on the back of Ben's great hundred, Xander Dietze and Matt Dimattina scored creditable 20s. SKC posted an impressive 206. SKX began bowling well with 3 bowlers picking up 2 wickets each. Despite our enthusiastic efforts we could only take 9 Carey wickets but they were 60 runs adrift from our total. A most encouraging effort by all players. Once again, congratulations to ben Griffin on his 103 from 139 deliveries with 14 boundaries at a strike rate of 74.1 in 158 minutes. SKC won the toss and batted. Jesse Batastella opened the batting and was able to graft 34 while wickets fell around him. Eoin O'Mahoney was solid for 14 however SKC continued to lose wickets and was unable to build partnerships. A huge 98 dot balls also saw SKC struggle to a total over 100. XC started strongly and were in a Batting - Jesse Batastella 34, Eoin O'Mahony strong position at 55/2 half way through the 30 overs. With 93/5 and 7 14, Ethan Boal 11, Marco Polidoro 11, overs to go, XC looked like having the game, however SKC finally Bowling - Angus Farnan 2/11, Marco Polidoro switched on in the field and a brace of run outs and some tight bowling 2/12, Josh Lake 2/11 at the death saw SKC dismiss XC for 108. Batting - Samuel Gunson 35ret, Xavier Vaughan 23, Cailan Lhuede 19. Bowling Harrison Fitzgerald 3/7, Fred Bulbeck 2/8 Another strong all round team performance saw the 9Cs claim their second straight victory. A solid batting performance saw the team put on 127 runs for the loss of six wickets at the healthy run rate of 4.5 per over. Best batting this week came from Sam Gunson (35 ret), Xavier Vaughan 23 and Cailan Lhuede 19. Impressive opening bowling spells from Tom Schofield and Mitchell Ryan put Wesley under pressure early on. Following a couple of wickets Wesley had two strong batters in together and a lack of patience in the field allowed a few runs to leak, however an impressive catch from Lhuede was able to break this partnership and from then on SKC were in complete control. Very good bowling from Fred Bulbeck (2/8) and Harrison Fitzgerald (3/7) in later overs was pleasing and saw SKC win by 37 runs. A key area for improvement is the need to hold on to our catches, we can not afford to give the opposition extra chances in future games. Ben McMahon 32, Joe Gleeson 22, Tom Williams 20 not out. Zac Gucciardo 2/16, Adam Woolhouse 2/10 St Kevin's won the toss and batted first. The boys had another tough start with the bat being 3/17 at one point. However a brilliant middle order partnership of 52 between Ben McMahon and Tom Williams turned the game on its head with the boys finishing on 110. In reply, Scotch got off to a strong start but lost 4 wickets for 10 runs. Some unbelievable fielding from Josh Hardy and Daniel Gambell put Scotch under pressure to which they had no answer. Some brilliant death bowling by Zac Gucciardo, Josh Hardy and Ben Eldridge finished the job for the boys. The CGS bowlers were clearly the best we had faced but Luke Candellero withstood the early pressure and went on to make a cavalier 28 ret including 6 boundaries. He was well supported by John Hynes who made a valuable 12 runs. Unfortunately, their dominant opening stand was followed by the loss of two quick wickets and it seemed the wheels had come off for us. That is, until Harry Kirkwoord (17) strode to the crease and produed another accomplished innings to rebuild our run tally and confidence. CGS never looked comfortable against the depth and variation of our bowling and as our fielding was again almost faultless the boys took full toll of any mistakes from the opposition. Another well deserved win for the 8C's. Harrison Martin 4/10 & 8 retired. James Colloretti 24 retired & 3 stumpings. Luca DeThomasis SKC played well with tight bowling and fielding. Five wickets were caught and 3 were runouts so our fielding was fantastic. Jordan Woods caught the catch of the season in slips with fingers outstretched just of the grass. James Coloretti was solid all day involved as top scorer and stumping out three players. Harrison Martin was on a hatrick and finished with 4 wickets. Great team effort with all boys playing with great support and sportsmanship. Well done. Kobe Cikala 2 /11 & Oliver Garlick 2/21. Dashiell Spencer-White and Nicholas Dynan both scoring 20 runs. The 7A's came up against a very talented Melbourne Grammar School. Winning the toss we elected to bat making a slow but steady run rate. Early wickets lost us the momentum completing the 30 overs 9 for 87. SKC 7A started well with Kobe Cikala taking two wicket in his first over, but the batting from MGS was very good passing the total in 21 overs. MGS finished the final overs but not without lossing wickets. The 7A's displayed real sportsmanship in the face of quality opposition. Joel McMahen 30ret, Henry James 23ret, Xavier Robinson 21no and 2/9, Zac Gleeson 3/2 Bowling first in beautiful conditions SKC bowled with control, method and often with venom to restrict CGS to a meagre total. Xavier Robinson's fast yorkers caused great concern to the batsmen and legspinner Zac Gleeson took 3 wickets in 4 balls in his third over as CGS capitulated. SKC then took the opportunity to bat for all their allotted overs, losing only two wickets whilst all twelve batsmen had time at the crease.to enjoy batting under very favourable conditions. It was a wonderful team effort in a game played in the very best spirit. Congratulations to all. Harry Bowen 3/6, Ethan Duffy 2/4, James Hart 13. The 7D's recorded an exciting win against Scotch College. Batting first, SKC recorded a defendable total of 98. Despite the regular loss of wickets, James Hart scored runs with confidence which set the tone for the rest of the team. After allowing Scotch to reach a commanding position, St Kevin's fought back with all players displaying intensity in the field. As the morning moved into singles, the boys kept their concentration with Lloyd Quinn, Tim Roberts, Charlie Lee and Asin Bucella all winning their singles 6-0. Will Laverty, Josh Giddy and Ethan Kelly The 9C Green squad faced-off against a strong Xavier team in a solid afternoon of tennis. While the boys managed to secure the win, it was not without a big effort, as many of the games went to duce six. Special note goes to Ethan Kelly for his fortitude in a drawn out ground game; and to Max Tribe, who gave up his Saturday afternoon to play his second match of Tennis for the weekend. Fintan Mahon, Tom Swift, Alex Capuano After last week's demolition job, this was a lot more of a hard-fought fought victory against our fellow Kevinians. Despite staring down the barrel of defeat on more than one occasion, the boys showed resolve and poise to outlast their rivals by a slim margin. Friday night tennis at Waterford provided quite a spectacle for the punters in spite of a less than sellout crowd. Mat Kim, Daniel Madjen, Le Evans The 9D team played a great match again but sadly lost to SKC 9Blue by 4 points. Both Leo and Isaac had a very close match showing their great effort and strong team sprit. Mat and Daniel played another impressive matches bith in singles and doubles stteing them both in no loss games so far this season. A hat off for Leo supported Isaac to the end in a competitive game against his opponent. L 5 sets, 52 games to 7 sets, 56 games Riley Walker, Harrison Raphael, Sam Arthur A very strong performance this week, with the boys posting wins in 11 out of 12 rubbers. It was great to see the boys supporting each other and competing to the best of their ability. Special mention to Sam Arthur who played an extra singles rubber, winning all three of his matches. Patrick Monteiro, Nick Tonge, Sam Close. A great team win against a developing team. Strong ground strokes form Patrick and Nick were a highlight of the morning. Andrew was impressive for a second week in a row as was Luca - both having comfortable wins. Liam Monaghan, James Allori, Max Oddi Once again the team work of our boys prevailed over our opponents. Some very tough competition, but the boys played hard and showed great sportmanship. Touch Football Team 1sts R.Windle Xavier College W 12 to 7 Best Performers Comments A relatively even first half against Xavier College saw scores locked at 4 touchdowns a piece going into the break. Some slight adjustments to the SKC game-plan saw the firsts pull away with 7 second-half scores as they played their best touch of the season thus far. 2nds D.Crompton Ivanhoe Grammar W 14 to 2 A strong performance saw the Second team continue thier winning streak. Good discipline and organiation meant that SKC were able to build continued pressure on their opposition. SKC too strong against a determined Ivanhoe Grammar team. After a tense start, SKC 3rds started saturday's game by scoring two excellent set piece tries to absolutely sominate the first 15 minutes of the game. Xavier then came back with 5 minutes to go of the half by scoring three very debateable tries. Skc came out of half time motivated and pushed the score to 5-4 with minutes left. A very good display from a well drilled SKC deserved the win, but unfortunately Xavier ended the game on top. 3rds L.Sears Xavier College 3 L 4 to 5 10A J.Whitehead Haileybury 6 W 23 to 1 A dominat performance from SKC saw them take victory against Haileybury 6. Well executed attack and organised defence saw them continue to extend their lead with every member of the team being rewarded with a try. 10B H.Felgate Xavier College 7 W 8 to 6 A hard fought win for the 10B team over the weekend. SKC continued to work on their structures and attacking shape and were rewarded with the win. Joshua Bedier, Jack Darmody Facing another Y10 team, the boys started relatively well but poor line speed in defence allowed Haileybury too much room to operate, meaning the concession of two early tries. Better shape in attack than previous weeks led to two scores by Jack Darmody and a tight 4-2 scoreline. In the second half, Haileybury got some long range tries due to impressive athleticism when we attempted to close down their space. Joshua Bedier was impressive in scramble defence and Declan Conroy added a well-worked try. Most improved: John Burgess and Stacy Brockwell-Hahn The 9B's played very well as a team on the weekend. They also showed individual brilliance and the courage to try new plays. Tries: Liam Gallagher 2, Oliver Cooper 1, Stacy Brockwell-Hahn 2, Fraser Campbell 2, Samuel Rausch 3. Lachlan Peel, Cormac Hamill Another great team effort. Edward Rosengren, Michael Arendtsz, Connor Heath An exciting game with all players performing well. This match gave the boys an opportunity to fine tune some skills both on the attack and on defense. Charlie, Henry, and Michael with a great intercept, had tries scored well from runs from midfiled. Connor worked hard for his second try, having his 2 previous attempts disallowed. The skills built up in defense will serve the boys well in the coming weeks. 9A B.Power Haileybury L 3 to 9 9B G.Pittman Haileybury W 12 to 2 8A C.Buys Brighton GS 6 W 8 to 2 Patrick Allsop, Angus Diviny, Timothy Turner 8B A.Power Brighton GS 4 W 9 to 1 7A M.Senior Brighton GS 5 W 10 to 1 Gus Simpfendorfer, Samuel Parker, RyanCornelius A well executed victory by SKC. A solid performance by the whole team. Some great blocking and serving by our middle blockers Mitch and Hugh was complemented by some solid passing and hitting by our ouside hitters Rhylee, Jordan and Nick and opposite hitter Lachlan Also the great leadership was shown by Liam Devine. Sam Mercuri, Max DiCinto, Marcus Hope, Will Vanderslick A strong performance against a very capable Haileybury team. After being outplayed and outpositioned in the first set, the boys rallied behind some strong serving from Sam, Max, Marcus and Will at various stages throughout the 2nd and 3rd sets. Combined with some minor serve reception tweaks and stronger net play, the guys were able to wrest control of the match away in the 2nd and break Haileybury's spirit comprehensively in the 3rd. Well played! Zac Harper, Lester Lo, Joshua Nicholls The boys started well taking the first set, however could not match Haileyburys dominance going down 1-3. Well done to Zac Harper who saved some crucial points. 3rds Green L.Miller WC Glen Waverley W 3 to 1 (18-25, 25-17, 15-16, 25-20) Peter Goff, Samuel Hill, Lachlan Quayle Evenly matched teams as reflected in the scores. However, some complacencyand a lack of communication crept in, in the third set as we gave away 10 straight points. a regroup in the 4th set saw us return to a good standard. Peter Goff was consistent in all court positions but especially at the net. Both Lachlan Quayle and Samuel Hill consistently threw themselves at the ball. Patrick Gornall's footwork saved us a few points. 3 to 0 (25-11, 25-4, 25-22) Samuel Crowe, Fergus Arundell, Max Day. A very convincing win played in great spirit, with a monumental serving effort by Max Day who served over 30 winners in a row, from SKC 17 in the 1st set, to SKC 21 in the 2nd. 0 to 3 (7-25, 13-25, 5-25) Cyrus Raki, Harrison Gaunt, Alex Trnacek Up against probably the best year 10 team I've seen in 12 years of APS Volleyball. The boys fought courageously but were outclassed. Nick Trnacek, Flynn Snowden, James Hill The best volleyball game the year 9A boys have played by far. Consistenly using 3 hits ment the boys were in control of the game the whole time. Some great hitting by Nick Trnacek meant we had power in the front court. Flynn Snowden became a huge blocker, consistenly stopping the other team from hitting to our side. Overall the best game by far the boys have played to date. Patrick Lee, Nicholas Kimura, Tom Williams SKC took an early lead and easily took the first set. Patrick Lee starred in the second, with ten serves in a row, however Wesley then made a comeback and pushed SKC to a tight win of the set. Nicholas Kimura's strong serving and diving digs showed his commitment and SKC easily won the 3rd set 15-9. A great team effort, our success highly driven by excellent serving. Charlie Pammer, Harris Nilsen, Jack Broadhurst SKC took and early lead but the wheels fell off in the 2nd and 3rd sets. The team rallied and took out some great 1-2-3 combos to secure the win. Arguably serves won the match with notable performances by Charlie, Harris and Jack. It was an amazing effort and result for the boys and it was clear SKC were the more skilled team on the day. Jake Vreugdenbuurg, Zach Martin St Kevins lost the first set in a closely fought battle. Strong serving and some great passing lead to a strong second set and forced the game into a third. Despite a strong start, a serving run by caulfield put SKC down by 8 in the final set. Not to be deterred, an even greater serving run by Jake Vreugdenburg put the team up and the team closed strongly to take out a very close game. 4ths Blue L.Linehan HY Majenta W 3 to 1 (25-23, 25-28, 25-27, 25-22) 4ths Green A.Dunell Xavier College W 10A J.Pollard Carey Grammar L 9A 9B Blue 9B Green 7/8A K.Lai N.O'Brien K. de Youg D.Bolton Scotch College WC Prahran Carey Grammar CGS Caulfield W 3-1 (25-17, 27-25, 19-25, 26-24) W 3 to 0 (25-13, 26-24, 15-9) W 3:2-25-20; 25-10; 14-25; 18-25; 1715 W Dominic Holden, Oliver Bulbeck, James Flanagan 2:1 27-29; 25-19; 25-21
