Sea to Sea Marathon Runners' Briefing

Welcome to the Tobago International Sea to Sea Marathon.
This briefing is designed to provide you a guide to a safe and enjoyable race. We want our race
participants to be prepared for the rules and regulations and general conduct of the event. There
will also be a verbal briefing at the start lines of the races.
Please read through this document carefully. A copy of the briefing will also be available at the
Official Marathon booth at the Marathon Village. If you have any questions please contact us at

Race Course
The Sea to Sea Marathon race course is certified by the International Association of Athletics
Federations (IAAF) and Association of International Marathons (AIMS). The race course will start
in the Main Ridge Forest Reserve near Bloody Bay on the Caribbean Sea, proceed through the
forest to Roxborough, Tobago’s second largest town located on the Atlantic Sea coast. Athletes
will then run west along Windward Road flanked by the Atlantic coast with seaside vistas, through
picturesque villages to the capital Scarborough and onto the 26.2 mile finish line in Lambeau
Beach, Little Rockly Bay on the Atlantic Ocean. We call it The Beautiful Challenge.
The Half Marathon, 10K and 5K are also on the same route and all end at the same finish line in
Lambeau (Petit Trou) Beach in Lowlands, Tobago.
Race Locations
START:
There will be 4 races:
1. 5k race will start in Scarborough at 6:30AM on Saturday May 20, 2017
2. 10k race will start in Bacolet at 7:00AM on Saturday May 20, 2017
3. Half marathon will start in Goodwood at 5:00AM on Sunday May 21, 2017
4. Full marathon will start in the Main Ridge Forest Reserve at 5:00AM on Sunday May 21,
2017
FINISH:
All 4 races end in the Marathon Village which will be located at Lambeau Beach (Petit Trou), Little
Rockly Bay, close to Magdalena Grand Beach & Golf Resort/Tobago Plantations in Lowlands,
Tobago. Entry into the village will be restricted to pedestrians and approved vehicles as Hampden
Road will be closed from the 2 bridges in either direction leading into the Lambeau Beach area.
Cut off times
For the full Marathon the generous cut-off time is 7 hours, and for the Half-Marathon it is 4 hours.
Any runners still on the road after the cut-off time will be given a courtesy ride to the finish line.
Race Registration
Race registration is compulsory for all competitors and closes on May 6, 2017. Please note that
there is no registration on race day. No substitutions or transfer of entries will be allowed. If any
runners are caught substituting for another, they will be immediately disqualified from the race.
There are no Refunds for cancellations.
Race Packet Pick-Up
All registrants will receive a race packet from the Marathon Official booth located in the Marathon
Village.
Please note that there is no packet pick-up on race day. Pick up your race packet by the
following deadlines:


5K and 10K: Friday May 19, 2017 from 12pm to 7pm.
Half Marathon and Marathon: Saturday May 20, 2017 from 9am to 7pm.
If you are unable to collect your packet yourself, you can provide someone over age 18 with a
copy of your identification to collect it for you.
Race Packet & Tote (Goody Bag)
Your race kit will contain a disposable timing chip incorporated into the bib number. There will
also be a Sea to Sea Marathon T-shirt.
Please do not store your timing chip close to an electro-magnetic field like a speaker box,
television or cell phone as this can cause the data programmed in the timing chip to get corrupted.
Finish Line and Recovery Area
Your timing chip and race number tag will be collected at the finish line and you will be directed to
the recovery area and awarded a finishers’ medal for your race. A snack, beverage and a
massage service will be available.
Race Day Briefing
Before the start of the race, runners will be called to assemble near the start line for the pre-race
briefing. This briefing is compulsory and will cover all changes to the general conduct of the race,
safety concerns and conditions on the day. Information that will be covered includes: course
layout, turn-arounds, marshalling, drink stations and road hazards.
You need to be race-ready at the time of the pre-race briefing.
Runners should run on the left hand side of the road unless directed otherwise by an official or
marshal. Do not run in the middle of the road. Both races are conducted on public roads that are
not closed to local traffic. Vehicles travelling on these roads may be travelling over 80km/h. There
will be some signs displayed along the course to caution drivers that there are runners on the road
and to reduce speed. When crossing roads, ensure that it is safe before proceeding and cross
quickly.
IPods/music players/head phones are not allowed for safety reasons. This course is on
open roads and it is important competitors are able to hear the traffic or instructions.
Hydration Stations
Water-stops at every mile along the course for all four races. Gatorade stations for the HalfMarathon at 3.9 miles, 7.9 miles and 10.9 miles. For the Marathon at 3.9 miles, 7.9 mile, 10.9
miles, 13 miles, 17 miles, 21 miles and 24 miles.
Toilets
There will be portable loos for the Half-Marathon at 4.9 mile and 8.9 mile. For the Full Marathon at
8 mile, midpoint, 18 mile and 22 mile.
Medals
Special commemorative finisher’s medal with custom neck ribbon will be given after crossing the
finish line.
Transportation
There will be a shuttle service to the start lines of the full marathon, half-marathon and 10k for all
registered runners. Transportation to the half and full marathon start lines is mandatory. The 5k
race is starting in Scarborough which is very accessible by public or private transportation.
Please ensure you arrive at the pick-up point at the appointed time to ensure you are able to
participate in your run.


The pick-up point for the 10k race will be at the Marathon Village located at Lambeau
Beach and Gulf City Mall Lowlands.
The pick-up points for the full and half marathon will be at the Marathon Village, Store Bay
Beach parking lot, Gulf City Mall Lowlands and the Ferry Terminal (Scarborough) and at the
following hotels:



Mount Irvine Bay Resort
Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort
Bacolet Beach Club (Havana Café)
Pick up times are as follows:



10K run: Saturday May 20, 2017 at 6:00 am
Half Marathon: Sunday May 21, 2017 at 4:00 am
Full Marathon: Sunday May 21, 2017 at 3:30 am
At race packet collection, runners for the Half and Full Marathon must indicate their
preferred shuttle pick-up location from the above options.
Race results
The full list of finishers will be posted on race day at www.seatoseamarathon.com and
www.onlineraceresults.com.
Race Timing
The timing chip is stuck to the back of the race bib which comes in the race packet. Please ensure
the following in order to receive an accurate time.
• Race bib is pinned and clearly visible on the front of the torso
• Race bib is unaltered and unmodified (do not fold or wrinkle)
• Race bib is pinned in all four corners
• Race bib is not covered (runner belts, water bottles, etc.)
Race organizers will endeavour to obtain a finish time for all participants. However, organizers
may be prevented from doing this by circumstances beyond our control. Whilst a timing chip, race
clocks and back-up timing will be in place, it is recommended that runners should record their own
race time.
Markers
There will be mile markers for the Marathon and the Half-Marathon and kilometre markers for the
5K and 10K.
Outside Assistance
The race organizers acknowledge that supporters may want to follow runners in cars or on bikes.
Due to safety precautions, this practice is not encouraged. Any vehicles on the run course are
subject to standard road regulations.
Pacing of runners is not permitted. Runners face disqualification if supporters are found to be
providing pacing assistance.
Outside assistance in the form of drinks, food, clothing etc. provided to a participant is only
permitted if conducted at an official Hydration Station. Runners face disqualification if supporters
are found to be providing assistance outside of these areas.
Withdrawals
Any participant withdrawing during the event must notify the Race Officials in the Marathon
Officials booth at the Marathon Village or present at the nearest hydration station and notify the
volunteers.
Medical
There will be ambulances traversing the course with medical. They can also be radioed in an
emergency by course officials. There will also be a major medical tent at the finish with medical
staff.
It is every competitor’s responsibility to ensure that they are fit and capable of running the full
distance of their race. It is each competitor's responsibility to ensure they have adequately
prepared for the distances. Race organizers strongly encourage any participant who is feeling
unwell prior to the race to seek medical advice on their participation.
Race organizers reserve the right to withdraw a runner based on medical grounds.
A massage will be available to all competitors in the recovery area at the finish line.
Athletes' Bags will be transported to the finish line. Please use the tote provided with your
race packet or your own bag and securely attach the tags provided, clearly labeled with
your race bib number. There will be an official vehicle at the start lines where you may leave
your tote. You can claim your belongings at the Official Marathon booth at the finish line upon
presenting your race number. Please note that while every effort will be made to safely transport
your belongings, we recommend you leave your valuable items secured at your accommodation
as Sea to Sea Events Ltd will not be responsible for lost, damaged or misplaced items.
Parking
Participants and visitors are encouraged to park at Gulf City Lowlands Mall where a courtesy
shuttle service will run regularly to bring you to the Marathon Village. There is limited off street
parking across from Lambeau Fish Market on Milford Road. Entry into the Marathon Village will be
closed to traffic from the 2 bridges on either direction leading into the Lambeau Beach area.
Parking on Hampden Road will be highly restricted as this is entry and drop off point for all
participants and visitors.
Facilities
The Sea to Sea Marathon Village will be open from 12pm on Friday May 19, 2017 to 2pm on
Sunday May 21, 2017. Access to toilets and running water will be provided as well as 24-hour
onsite security during the entire weekend.
Awards Ceremony
The prize giving ceremonies will be held at the Marathon Village:


Saturday May 20, 2017 shortly after the races for the prize winners of 5K and 10K races.
Sunday May 21, 2017 at 10:30am for the prize winners of the Full and Half Marathons.
Full event program and final schedule of prize-giving ceremonies will be provided at the Marathon
Village prior to race. The full prize structure is shown at www.seatoseamarathon.com. Open prize
winners are not eligible for age-group awards. Proof of age may be required for age category prize
winners.
