Give students a hands-on experience
making their own unique shapes.
Provide construction paper and
whatever craft supplies you have on
hand, such as yarn, glitter, colored
glue, craft sticks, buttons, pipe
cleaners, straws, sponges, and paint.
Students combine basic, geometric
shapes to create their own oneof-a-kind shapes. For example, a
square and a triangle might make a
“squangle.” Label the shapes and
display them on your board. Study
and discuss these original works
of art, and then decide what real
objects may match these fun new
shape creations.
