In honor of Cinco de Mayo, try Real Pickles tomatillo hot sauce to spice up any Mexican style dish. Serving Our Community For 70 Years South River Miso – Conway, MA 2014 Cinco de Mayo Cinco de Mayo, the 5th of May, commemorates the Mexican victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War from 1861-1867. The victory represented a significant morale boost for the Mexican army and the Mexican people as a whole. It is a common misconception that Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day. While the holiday is barely celebrated in Mexico, it has become a massive celebration of Mexican culture and cuisine in the United States, specifically in areas with large Mexican populations. Cinco de Mayo traditions include parades, live music, and street fairs, all in Mexican styles. There is a special emphasis on Mexican products during Cinco de Mayo, specifically alcoholic beverage companies that represent celebration. The victory of Cinco de Mayo is not considered a national holiday anywhere in Mexico except for the state of Puebla. While it is a proud achievement of the country, it is less celebrated there than in the United States. This year enjoy Cinco de Mayo with great cuisine made from ingredients that can be found at the Co-op. Try a great Enchiladas Verdes recipe made out of Real Pickles tomatillo hot sauce!
