preamble n. A preliminary statement, especially the
ntroduction to a formal document that serves to explain its
urpose.
The Preamble
We the people of the United States, In order to form
a more perfect Union, Establish justice, Insure
domestic tranquility, Provide for the common
defense, Promote the general welfare, And secure
the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our
posterity, Do ordain and establish this Constitution
for the United States of America.
Now let’s put the six goals in words that will help us
better understand their meaning.

order to form a more perfect Union,

Introductory Statement
We the people of the United States,
We the representatives of the American
people,
In order to form a more perfect
Union,
Are creating this Constitution for the
following reasons:
Establish justice,
To make sure everyone is treated fairly
ensure domestic tranquility,
make sure everyone lives in peace under
the laws
Provide for the common defense,
To get help from others if someone tries
to hurt us
Promote the general welfare,
To work together for the good of others,
not just for ourselves
And secure the blessings of liberty
to ourselves and our posterity,
To encourage what is good for all of us
and for those who haven’t been born yet.
Concluding Statement
Do ordain and establish this
Constitution for the United States of
America.
Do order and set up the laws and rules
for our country.
