Good practices for waste management
WASTES
good practices
It is during the planning and design phase that the intervenients on the process should enssure the use
of materials and constructive solutions that guaranty recycling and a future reuse of the wastes resulting
from deconstruction, and it should always be assured the following principles:
1. To opt by constructive systems that avoid the use of glues or other agglutinative, privileging the mechanical and docking systems;
2. To avoid the usage of composites that cannot be separated;
3. To design the building always predicting its deconstruction at the end of its life cycle (there are no
longer demolitions and the buildings can be desmantled, followed by its selective deconstruction).
One of the big sources of wates in construction occurs during the phase of the construction of buildings.
Of this phase result an average of about 10% of the total waste volume produced by the construction sector!
In Portugal, is already operative the legal framework for waste management operations resulting from
construction or demolition of buildings or landslides - Ordinance no 46/2008.
