Financial Aid - Frequently Asked Questions
Q
Does Pacific Rim Christian University have Federal Financial Aid?
A
Q
How many credit hours do I have to take to get Financial Aid?
A
Q
It takes about 30—45 minutes to complete the process. Make sure you have the past
year’s tax information for your parents and/or your own tax information if you worked at
a job that year.
What does FAFSA stand for anyway?
A
Q
You can put up to ten schools on your FAFSA application. Each school you list will get your
information.
How long does it take to do the FAFSA?
A
Q
You can apply at the website: www.fafsa.ed.gov. Make sure you use our school code
(015167). However, it will show as NEW HOPE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE—OREGON as currently they are our Federal Aid portal.
What if I am applying at several schools?
A
Q
It varies by type of aid:
 Pell Grant—is prorated by credit hours: IF you qualify for a Pell Grant you can take
from 3 credits to12 or more credits to receive a grant—it will be prorated by the
amount of credits you take
 Direct Loans & PLUS Loan—you must be at least a half time (6—8 credits) student
to qualify for these loans
 FSEOG—you must be a full time student to qualify—(at least 12 credits)
 Work Study—you must be a full time student
What’s the first step to apply for Financial Aid?
A
Q
Yes—Pell Grants, Direct Loans (both subsidized & unsubsidized), PLUS (Parent Loans to
Undergraduate Students), FSEOG (Federal Secondary Educational Opportunity Grant) and
some Federal Work Study jobs.
It stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It costs nothing to apply. BTW, don’t
go to the fafsa.com site—its not federally sponsored and they will charge you to apply.
Is that all I need to do?
A
PacRim also requires an online interview with our Financial Aid processor the Virtual Financial Aid Office (VFAO). Once you have been accept to the college, you will receive access to the online interview site: this processes your FAFSA information for our campus.
Q
An online interview—like the video interview I had to do for admissions?
A
Q
What’s the deadline to apply?
A
Q
Approximately 60% of our students receive Federal Financial Aid.
What if my Financial Aid doesn’t cover all of my expenses?
A
Q
It depends: next is verification. You may or may not have to do verification: only 1/2 of
our students are required to do it. If no verification is required (and you met the July 15th
deadline) you should receive your financial aid by the first week of the Fall semester.
If you are selected for verification, you should receive your Financial Aid a month after all
the verification documents have been turned in. For more details on the verification process, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
How many students at PRCU receive Federal Financial Aid?
A
Q
In order to get your Financial Aid in time for the Fall semester you need to complete the FAFSA by July 15th. For midyear admission, you need to complete the
FAFSA by December 1st.
OK, I have done all that. How long until I get my Financial Aid?
A
Q
No, it’s just a series of questions and information you complete online. It takes about
20 minutes. You won’t need tax information for this one.
Pacific Rim Christian University offers a payment plan so you can divide what you owe
for the semester into four payments. The preferred payment method is to auto pay by
credit card. But you can also pay by check or cash. There is a $50 application fee.
Does PacRim offer their own financial aid?
A
Yes, there are two for incoming students:
 Ignite Scholarship—for up to $500 per semester (varies by need & available funds)
 Pastor/Missionary Dependent Scholarship—for children of pastors or missionaries—$250 per semester.
There are several other institutional scholarships that will be available to you in your
second year at PacRim.
The college also participates in the Veteran’s Educational Benefits programs. Check
with the Financial Aid Office for details and how to apply.
