NEWSLETTER OF CRANLEIGH ABU DHABI PREP SCHOOL
FOREWORD
This is the time of year when a
school like ours really comes alive:
the children have just finished their
exams, but are also doing sports
tournaments, drama and musical
rehearsals and, of course, enjoying
the National Day celebrations. The huge amount on offer
at Cranleigh really means that there is something for
everyone and we strongly recommend that your children
aim to try something new each year. When they move on
from Cranleigh it is having these ‘extras’ on their CV that
will really make them stand out, whether they are
applying for new schools or university. What really
impreses me though, is how much fun your children seem
to have whilst working so hard. This is a comment I often
receive when I show prospective parents round the
school. They say, “Are all of your children really this
happy?” Sometimes, however, things do go wrong and we
are lucky enough to have a super pastoral team in place
and they will be working hard in these final few weeks to
make sure everyone remains positive and friendly.
NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATIONS
National Day was a huge success again with the children
enjoying a superb assembly with dancing and video,
house competitions, a gargantuan feast and then being
able to wander through the stalls. Our huge thanks goes to
our generous parents who made it all possible.
30TH NOVEMBER 2016
LEAVE OF ABSENCE
Please be reminded that all requests for Leave of Absence
should be sent to [email protected] at least a week in
advance. We have already had some enquiries about
families wanting to leave school a few days before the end
of term as the flights are cheaper. Unfortunately, whilst I
understand your mindset, I am not allowed to authorise
that.
COFFEE MORNING FOR PARENTS
We will be hosting our second coffee morning of the year
at 08:00 on Tuesday, 6th December in the Senior
School Atrium. This one will have a sporting focus with
Mr Gillam, the Prep School’s Head of Sport, also in
attendance. He will be able to give you his vision for sport
at Cranleigh and you will be able to ask him any questions
that you might have. That said, the primary focus of our
coffee mornings is still to meet up socially, make a few
new friends and build up a sense of community.
INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS NEXT TERM
The Music Department are delighted to announce that
there will be new full time and peripatetic teachers
joining the staff next term. We are, therefore, taking
applications for pupils from Year 3 upwards to learn
piano, voice, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and
trombone. It is unlikely that any further spaces will
become available again this academic year so if you have
a budding young musician in the family then this is their
opportunity to have a go. Please email your interest or
request further information (such as fees and instrument
hire) to [email protected]
