Terrible Tudors Newsletter Lower School

Entry point:
Autumn
Year 3 & 4 Curriculum Newsletter
2016
During the week beginning Monday 31st October, children will be introduced to our
new topic, The Terrible Tudors!
For our Entry Point Day, Treehouse Theatre (a local children’s theatre company)
will lead pupils through a ‘Play-in-a-Day’. The day will be filled with an array of
drama activities in which children learn about the key events of the Tudor period,
ending with the children performing the play to their peers. The play is fun, fastpaced and full of executions, marriages, battles and … well, more executions!
Further details can be found on the accompanying letter.
Project overview:
The Terrible Tudors gives the children the opportunity to learn about life in Tudor
times. Children will learn about how the Tudor reign began as a result of the
outcome of the Battle of Bosworth Field, the final battle in the Wars of the Roses.
They will then prepare for a re-enactment of this key battle, discussing tactics and
making their own armour. Pupils will learn to locate the Tudors within the context of
the history of Britain and learn about the life of King Henry VIII and why he had six
wives. Children will also look at the differences in lifestyles and housing compared
to the present day.
