Audition Information for LITTLE WOMEN
We are currently looking for cast members for our upcoming co-production of “Little Women: The Musical”
which will be performed at The Playhouse at The Overture Center from October 10-25, 2009.
Auditions will take place on Friday, July 17 from 6 pm to 10 pm and on Saturday, July 18 from 1 pm to 4
pm. Individual auditions will be scheduled with a group dance call held at the end of each hour. Locations
will be confirmed at the time of sign up. Callbacks will be held on Sunday, July 19 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the
CTM Studio at 228 State Street.
How to sign up for an audition:
Advance sign up for auditions is required. Please visit http://www.ctmtheater.org/playarole/audition.html to
sign up using our online reservation form. You will receive a confirmation email with your exact time and
audition location once your request is received and processed.
What to prepare:
Please prepare 32 bars of a contemporary musical theatre piece (not rock or pop style), preferably from
1980’s or ‘90’s. Please have your music clearly marked and in a 3-ring binder with pages copied back to
back. A professional accompanist will be provided. A cappella auditions are discouraged. You will be
asked to dance, so please bring comfortable shoes.
Schedule:
Regular rehearsals will begin Sunday, August 30. A complete rehearsal schedule will be available at
auditions. Please bring your calendar to the auditions so you can note any conflicts at that time. Please
note that all cast members must be available from 6 pm to 10 pm from October 5 through October 9 for
technical week rehearsals.
Casting Decisions:
Casting decisions will be made by Monday, July 27. All actors who are cast in LITTLE WOMEN will receive
a personal phone call by the end of the day on Monday, July 27. In addition, the cast list will be posted on
both the CTM and FST websites.
Character Breakdown:
Jo March (belt/mix, age 16-22): The main character in “Little Women” who stands up for everything she believes in
and becomes the author of novel.
Meg March (soprano, age 16-22): The oldest March girl. She is the most proper and inexperienced.
Beth March (soprano, age 15-20): The 2nd youngest March girl who dies. Very sweet, giving, and caring.
Amy March (soprano/mix , age 16-22): The youngest March girl who is always jealous of Joe and has a bit of an
edge.
Laurie Laurence (tenor, age 16-22): The next door neighbor of the March girls who strikes up a strong friendship with
all the girls and who develops a crush on Joe.
John Brooke (baritone, age 17-22): The young soldier who Meg falls in love with at her first ball.
Professor Friedrich Bhaer (baritone, 27-40): The straight-laced German Professor who Joe falls in love with in New
York and ultimately marries.
Marmee March (mezzo sop/belt, age 40-55): The mother of all of the March girls. She brings warmth and
compassion in both her singing and her character.
Aunt March (mezzo with high notes, age 42-60): Cecilia March is the uptight, old-fashioned Aunt of the March girls.
She believes good manners and breeding are everything.
Mr. Laurence (baritone, age 55-70): Laurie's grandfather who lives next door. Slightly crotchety.
There will also be a chorus of 10-15 people (ages 12 and up) who will play characters from Joe's books and
townspeople.
