He has played in several musicals including Jesus Christ Superstar, My Fair Lady and Southwell's own Me and My Girl. He has played in many rock bands, the most recent being The Latest Fallout. Jeremy’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Music from Vision College where he learned to play many varying styles of music of which he aims to pass on to whoever he has the privilege of teaching. Jeremy is currently tutoring at Vision College, Hamilton Christian School, and other primary schools that fit under the umbrella of ‘Music House’. Hannah Bryant BMus(Hons) Perf. Hannah graduated from the University of Auckland in 2013 with a BMus (Hons) in Classical Voice. After completing her studies, Hannah discovered a love of music education and children's singing, and became a valued singing tutor at many Auckland schools, namely Kings School and St Kentigern College. Hannah leads a busy and varied life as a children's choir director, singing teacher, freelance soloist and chorister. Passionate about building confidence in beginning singers and establishing healthy vocal technique, she has taught group and individual lessons for all ages and abilities. Her teaching style is fun and engaging, strengthening music reading alongside performance and singing skills. Meleana Eade Meleana has been playing the Bagpipes since the age of 10yrs and has over 15 years teaching experience. Together with her husband Brendan, who also teaches the bagpipes, she was heavily involved in the Hamilton Caledonian Pipe Band for a number of years and they were instrumental in getting the band to Grade 1 level. Their desire to provide a high standard of tuition, lead them to form the Central North Island Piping Academy, which has now been running for about 7 years. Nathan Koretz - BA Nathan began his formal training as a clarinetist sitting Trinity College of London practical exams up to Grade eight - all passed with the highest mark of distinction. He then studied performance music at the University of Waikato under the tutelage of renowned clarinetist Murray Khouri. He then embraced his love of jazz and began playing the saxophone, playing in various jazz combos, including guest appearances in North America. He went on to work with various famous musicians including Scott Fairbairn, Glenn Hughes, Desiree Bassett, and Chris Thompson. He has been a tutor of music for over fifteen years. Sam Koretz – BA (Music) Sam completed a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Music at Waikato University. He has vast experience as a performer, including playing lead guitar on stage with renowned singer Chris Thompson of Manfred Mann and had the pleasure of performing a US number 1 hit with the man who sang and recorded it. He has been teaching guitar since 2007 in a wide range of styles reflecting his expertise in both the classical and rock worlds, and enjoys sharing his passion for music with his students. Ashley Knox - BA(Music)- Composition & Songwriting Ashley has been teaching guitar/bass and music theory for over 15 years in the UK, Australia, NZ. He was an Itinerant Guitar Tutor for 4 years at St Peter’s School Cambridge, where he will be returning for 2014. He is a professional musician actively involved in the music industry and has performed with some of NZ’s best musicians. Angela Mote - B Mus (Flute), ATCL Saxophone (Dist), Dip Tchg Angela has 20 years of instrumental teaching experience and enjoys fostering a lifelong love of music in children. Students will learn to play a range of styles from classical, jazz and contemporary, with attention on developing correct technique and musicianship skills. Angela has a passion for performance and has played in a variety of groups from orchestral to jazz and chamber music. A recent highlight was touring with the New Zealand Navy Band on saxophone. In 2016 she moved from Wanaka and is looking forward to getting involved in the Waikato Music scene. Dr Greg Neil – DMA (Boston Uni) MMus (Boston U), BMus Hons (VUW) LTCL, AIRMT Greg completed a doctorate in piano at Boston University in 2006, a Masters degree in 1998 at Boston University and a BMus Hons at Victoria University in Wellington. Greg has taught piano since 1992 to a wide range of student levels. Since 2007 he has also taught at the NZ Opera School. Greg has worked at Auckland and Waikato Universities, currently serving on the board of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation and often appearing in recital with many of New Zealand’s younger elite singers. Greg is the Waikato Representative of the ABRSM. Bev Oliver – ATCL; IRMT Bev has been teaching for the past 40 years specialising in Suzuki Method of violin and preparing students for both Trinity College of London exams NCEA. She currently teaches at 8 schools, primary through to Secondary, in the Waikato. She is a playing member of OPUS chamber orchestra and Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra. Bev loves teaching violin and seeing the confidence and pride lessons give to young students. Kathryn Orbell - B.Mus (Hons), LTCL, FRSM Kathryn runs a teaching studio in Hamilton with students ranging from beginners through to Diploma level. She has been teaching flute at Southwell for over 20 years and enjoys helping young musicians discover a love and passion for music. She runs the Hamilton Flute Festival – currently NZ’s only flute educational event bringing International players to NZ, is district organiser for the Schools Chamber Music Contest, performs herself with Waikato Baroque, Vent Wind Quintet and Trio Fleuve (out of Auckland) and sings with Hamilton Civic Choir for enjoyment. Jean Paterson - ATCL Violin, Grade 8 Piano, B Soc Sci Jean has been teaching violin privately and also at various schools in Hamilton since 1987 and at Morrinsville College since 1993. She also teaches violin at the Hamilton Community Centre of Music. Music has always been a big part of her family life from an early age and she seeks to encourage students on a lifelong love of music. She enjoys and is experienced in teaching students of all ages. She believes learning music should be enjoyable and aims to teach to each student’s own learning style and level. Jean also plays in the Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra. Julie Pescud - Grade 8 Distinction , Royal Schools Music, BMA (Commercial Music) Julie plays a wide range of violin and fiddle styles from classical, gypsy, Celtic or American Fiddle to blues and jazz improvisations and has played Fiddle in bands for 25 years. She has been teaching violin for 10 years and enjoys sharing her musical experience with young violinists (or fiddle players). She aims to inspire and encourage them through a love and enjoyment of music. Bill Stoneham – B.Mus. from Birmingham Conservatoire (UK) Bill is NZ's most prominent trumpet soloist, being regularly described as 'trumpet player extraordinaire' and he brings a vast wealth of knowledge about trumpet performance to Southwell. During his musical education he has been tutored by acclaimed trumpet players from the UK, Sweden, Finland, Russia, USA, NZ and Australia. Having worked for major orchestras in both NZ and Australia, Bill is passionate about promoting the trumpet within the rapidly growing arts scene of the Waikato. Bill specialises in the trumpet but also teaches all the brass instruments at all levels. Sam Trenwith Sam has been tutoring at Southwell for the last 10 years. His focus is on individual achievement and he has an encouraging and relaxed approach to music lessons. He has worked with many accomplished musicians including Kimbra, Jason Kerrison (Op Shop) and Brooke Fraser. His work with school rock bands has resulted in many finalists at the national Smokefree Rock Quest. His passion is song writing and being creative musically, and he has had his original songs played on national radio. He is currently playing in bands Late 80’s Mercedes, Radiator and Trenwith Boys. Paul van Wering - BMus Paul is an experienced guitar, bass and ukulele teacher who has taught privately and in many schools for over 20 years. He is also a professional musician/entertainer and composer with 30 years of performance experience nationwide. Paul is the author of the nationally acclaimed beginner guitar book - Play that Guitar! Pamela Wallace - Dip.Music Pamela graduated in 1991 with a Diploma of Music. Winner of NZ Herald Aria and NZ National Vocal Awards. Awarded AGC Young Achievers Award and Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council Scholarship. Pamela studied in London with Mme Vera Rozasa (teacher of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Dame Malvina Major) and in New York with Frances Wilson. Pamela was offered a place to study at the Britten/Pears School of Advanced Musical Studies in England. She has performed in Opera and Recitals throughout England, Europe, USA and New Zealand. Highlights include performing in the Premiere of Paul McCartney’s ‘Liverpool Oratorio’ in Holland. She returned to New Zealand in 2003 and continues to perform and teach singing. Katie Wigmore - B.Mus(perf), GradDipT Katie has been teaching as an instrumental specialist, both at her home studio and in schools, for more than 20 Years. She enjoys teaching and inspiring children and adults in preparation for musical exams, NCEA, or just for the love of music! In 2003 Katie returned to University to pursue her formal musical training and since completing her Diploma of Teaching she has worked as a Music and Performing Arts teacher in schools. Katie has been a playing member of The Trust Waikato Symphony Orchestra since the age of 15 years old, and is also heavily involved in Hamilton Operatic Society. Janet Wilson – ATCL MSCANZ Janet has been successfully teaching Speech & Drama at Southwell for many years. Besides developing dramatic ability her classes improve oral language and develop life skills for the future. Every year Janet offers Trinity College London and NZ speech board examination opportunities. Her students are always well prepared and enjoy a high level of success. Cindy Xia – MMus, BMus (Hon), DipABRSM Cindy is passionate about inspiring students to become excellent and creative learners. Cindy runs a full teaching studio in Hamilton, tutors at Sistema Waikato and is the accompanist for the Mosaic Waikato Modern Choir. She is also the pianoforte convener for the Hamilton Performing Arts Competitions. In 2015 Cindy toured New Zealand as part of her flute and piano ensemble, the Korihi Duo, which will embark on a second national tour in 2017. Cindy studied piano with Dr. Rae de Lisle at the University of Auckland and graduated with her Master of Music in the spring of 2016.
