1 Brad White, PGA Executive Director, The Kelly Gibson Foundation [email protected] (504) 400-8013 August 3, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE $39,000 In Scholarships Awarded To Participants Of The Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour For the second year in a row, $39,000 in college scholarships was awarded to deserving members of The Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour at the Tour’s awards banquet, held August 2nd at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside. The junior tour, hosted by The Kelly Gibson Foundation, partnered with several other foundations and companies to provide students with scholarship money, recognizing their academic achievements and community leadership. The four recipients of the 2011 $3,000 BC Cup Foundation Scholarships are Stephen Bernard of Metairie, Garrett Creath of Mandeville, Alyssa Simon of Luling, and Elizabeth Borda of Metairie. Paul Cortazzo of Metairie was awarded the 2011 $5,000 Mike Rodrigue Scholarship by the Fore!Kids Foundation. Charlotte McLoughlin of Metairie and Daniel Tran of Slidell were each awarded $1,500 scholarships courtesy of the Fore!Kids Foundation, in the names of Jack Moseley and James Moffett, respectively. Two $2,000 Tommy Moore scholarships were awarded by The New Orleans golf Association; the 2011 recipients were Jennifer Nguyen of Slidell and John Simpson of Kenner. Ryan Martin of Mandeville was awarded the 2011 $2,000 Clarence Steeg scholarship by NOGA. Four $1,500 scholarships were awarded by The Kelly Gibson Foundation and Alvarez and Marsal; the recipients were Ike Potter of Mandeville, Lauren Barattini of Covington, Jamal Thompson of Picayune, Mississippi, and Matthew Autin of LaPlace. Cox Louisiana and The Kelly Gibson Foundation awarded $1,500 scholarships to Pearlissa Harris of Harvey and T.J. O’Rourke of Des Allemands. Austin Crosby of Mandeville and Timothy Harris of Harvey were both awarded $1,000 scholarships by The Kelly Gibson Foundation and Entergy. Norman Blanco of New Orleans and Christian Neal of Covington were the first recipients of the new Branford Marsalis/Kelly Gibson Foundation Scholarship, and each received $1,000. The Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour is presented by Cox Louisiana in partnership with Fore!Kids Foundation, Humana, Champagne Beverage/Southern Eagle, Nestle, Alvarez and Marsal, Entergy, TOMBA Communications BC Cup Foundation, New Orleans Golf Association, Rob Noel Golf Academy, PJ’s Coffee, WOW Café and Wingery, TaylorMade, Aunt Sally’s Pralines, BreauxMart and Academy Sports & Outdoors. Academy Sports & Outdoors was the presenting partner of the 2011 Player of the Year Awards. The player with the most earned points in the summer tournaments was awarded a trophy as well as a gift card to Academy Sports & Outdoors. The 2011 Player of the Year in each age division: Madeline Boudreau (Girls 9-11), Michaela Bryan (Girls 12-13), Angelica Harris (Girls 14-15), Jennifer Nguyen (Girls 16-17), Brook Braun (Girls 18-22), Daniel Pillai (Boys 9-11), Jacob Bergeron (Boys 12-13), Casey Panepinto (Boys 14-15), Daniel Tomba (Boys 16-17) and Andrew Spiers (Boys 18-22). Academy Sports & Outdoors also awarded each college scholarship with a gift card as well. About The Kelly Gibson Foundation: The Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour was founded in 2009 by PGA Tour Professional Kelly Gibson. It is operated by The Kelly Gibson Foundation with the mission of creating a positive learning experience through golf by providing competitive golf tournaments throughout the year. The Tour is open to both male and female golfers ages 9-22, with members competing in junior golf tournaments throughout New Orleans and the Gulf Coast Region. The Tour annually presents college scholarships based on community service, grade point average, and financial need. Scholarships are not awarded based on golfing ability.
