FREQUENTLY-ASKED QUESTIONS
When the position calls for the following, what does it mean?

High School Education or Certificate of Proficiency or Equivalent –
High school diploma, GED or, if graduated prior to 1981, a passing score on the Instructional
Assistant Proficiency test given at Bakersfield Adult School.

Valid Typing Certificate From an Accredited Institution –
Typing Certificate must be dated within one year of applying for a position with the District. The
following link provides a list of agencies to obtain your typing speed certification. The District
does not offer a typing test.

District Clerical Screening Test –
The District Clerical Screening Test is a requirement for any clerical position in the District. This
test is scheduled when there is a clerical job opening. It is the applicant’s responsibility to call the
Human Resources Department to reserve a test spot.

District Accounting Screening Test –
The District Accounting Screening Test is a requirement for any account clerk position in the
District, along with a passing score on the District Clerical Screening Test. Both the District
Accounting and Clerical Screening Tests are given at the same time when a job opening requires
this. It is the applicant’s responsibility to call the Human Resources Department to reserve a spot.

CODESP Test –
An employee working in a classroom instructional setting must be highly qualified. A passing score
fulfills the NCLB (No Child Left Behind) requirement and is equivalent to the paraprofessional exam.
If an applicant has an AA degree or provides “official college transcripts” of 48 semester units, this
test is not necessary.
I don’t have a computer and/or scanner. What do I do?
Computers are available for public use in the lobby of the District Office. You may bring documents by
the District Office for scanning and uploading to your application. The Human Resources Department
uploads documents every Wednesday.
I have an application on file. What do I need to do to apply for a different position?
You may update your application any time. You must apply for each job by uploading and submitting
your application to your job choice. Your application is connected to the email you set up, so please
verify your email address is correct. Correspondence from the District may be sent through email.
