Plan out 6 abstract drawings of a person or an animal in your sketchbook. Focus on a movement and the
musculature of your best drawing. Draw a front, back, side and top views.
Make a clay maquette of step #1 (about the size of a lemon).
Pour your plaster into a clean, empty ½ gallon milk or juice carton (follow the directions on the package of
plaster, NEVER POUR PLASTER DOEN THE SINK DRAIN). AP 3D Art recommendation: model self hardening clay
instead of using the plaster.
Draw a top view onto the plaster while referring to your maquette. If you are using self hardening clay, simply
keep referring to the maquette . Calipers or a ruler will help with the proportion and placement of parts.
Steps 5-12 refer only to the plaster version of the project.
Draw front and back views and connect to the top view.
Draw the side views and connect.
Carve block with a large loop tool. When you take a break from carving, make sure to cover the plaster up with
2-3 layers of plastic bags. Plaster just gets harder and harder as it ages, making it harder to carve.
Use a rasp to smooth the sculpture.
Sand with sandpaper.
Spray paint with bronze metallic paint and spray with a sealant
Buff with a cloth
Sand and paint wooden base and hot glue it to the sculpture
I KNOW that you can do this!
