Fun with Nose Work Classes at Bloomingrove

Fun with Nose Work Classes at Bloomingrove Veterinary Hospital in
North Greenbush, NY with Peg Munves, Step In Time Training LLC
Nose Work gives your dog the chance to be a dog and use her/his strongest sense: the sense of smell!
Every dog loves nose work: Couch potatoes, petite pups, oversized pooches, shy dogs, fearful dogs,
obedience dogs, agility dogs, senior citizens, blind dogs, deaf dogs. Nose Work builds confidence and
burns mental and physical energy.
Based on canine scent detection work, these classes will share the same techniques that professional
trainers use to start their own scent detection dogs for their real-world work. This fun activity is great
for winter, spring, summer AND fall. Do it at home and anywhere you go! You can even compete and
earn titles in the sanctioned sport “K9 Nose Work®” from the National Association of Canine Scent
Work. These ongoing classes, following the philosophy and methodology of "K9 Nose Work®" as
developed by the founders of the activity, will help you achieve your ORT (odor recognition test) and
NW1 title, and beyond. For more information go to https://www.nacsw.net/
Intro to Fun with Nose Work – For teams who have not done this before OR who want more practice with the
basics. Dogs and handlers learn how to search for food or a toy in an organized manner. Multiple hides will be
used at each turn so you get a lot of work and your dog builds enthusiasm for the hunt. You will learn the most
effective methods for motivating your dogs to search independently, including the power of self-rewarding,
reinforcing the dog’s behavior at the odor source. You will start to learn to read when your dog is “in odor,”
how and when to help, and when to let the dog work.
