Salzburgers
Arrived to Georgia in

They were expelled from
Germany for not being
Catholic.
They were

wanted religious freedom.
Created the town of

swampy to survive.
Relocated to the town of
New Ebenezer along
_Savannah_ River and it
became a very religious.

Malcontents
Complained against the
leadership of Oglethorpe.
Land Problems – poor soil to
grow __mulberry____ trees.
Slavery – Many of the crops
were labor-intensive. They
wanted _slaves_ like S.C.
Rum – _Rum_ was cheap to
buy and could be traded as
well. They wanted to be able
to drink.
By 1740 some of the loudest
malcontents fled to South
Carolina. The discontent did
not go away.
