Family of Rotary
Rotarian Ed Crabtree’s wife Sally is under 24-hour in-home hospice care. Please keep the
Crabtree family in your thoughts and prayers while respecting their privacy during this difficult
time.
Please continue to keep Rotarians Carolyn Smith and Gretchen Kneen in your thoughts and
prayers. Carolyn’s daughter Allison, and Gretchen’s sister, passed away January 14th. Here is a
message from the Smith/Kneen family which they asked us to share with you.
Good morning friends and family:
Allison seems with us everywhere this morning. One of the lines from Longfellow’s poem quoted in part
below was on my mind when I woke up:
Be still sad heart and cease repining
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining
Thy fate is the common fate of all
Into each life some rain must fall
Some days must be dark and dreary.
And, this morning, when Gretchen got into her car headed for work the radio was playing “I can see clearly now the rain has gone.” Allison sang this at her Dad’s service in
2008 and soon after at her godson, Noah’s service.
The sad truth is that Allie died in her sleep Tuesday night. There are lots of questions
but what we know is that we’ve watched her slowly go downhill these past three years or so due in large measure
to severe chronic back pain and a poor immune system from her chemo. She and her doctors tried to reduce the
pain and could for short periods. But, it would always return. We’re relieved that she’s no longer so uncomfortable.
The family met yesterday to share stories, memories, songs and pictures. And, we reviewed her wishes for a
service which she wants to be a celebration of her life somewhere out of doors. It will be at Colorado Academy, at
2 p.m. on Sunday, May 18.
If your plans bring you here, all of us would be happy to see you. And we send our love,
~ Carolyn, Mark, Gordon, Gretchen, Julie and Allie’s eight nieces and nephews and their offspring.

PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR ROTARY FAMILY!
It is a Rotary tradition to honor our Birth-a-tarians each week. We also want to rejoice when one of our
members receives GOOD NEWS, such as an award, the birth of a child, marriages or business success.
Conversely, we want to let you know WE CARE when our lives are not going so well. We often miss
knowing when a family member’s loved one has died, a member is sick or one is
experiencing difficult challenges in their life. Forms are available to you at each meeting. They are
located on the hospitality table at the back of the room. Feel free to take some home. They can also be
downloaded from the website or by clicking here. Please SHARE.
For questions or comments about the
compilation, distribution or production
