Saltillo to Matehuala Follow the signs to Matehuala. 259 kilometers to Matehuala. Pemex at 182 & 177 kilometer markers. 1. Follow sign to Mexico Building Landmark 2. Go straight. Follow sign to Matehuala. 3. Turn left after going under overpass. Then go straight. 4. 250 Kilometers to Matehuala Nice Pemex – 7-11 after turn. Follow signs to Matehuala. 5. Landmark – town of Bella Union. Follow signs to Matehuala and/or Mexico (meaning Mexico City). 6. Highway splits…stay to right. 7. Follow signs to San Luis Potosi. 8. Coming up to toll road (cuota). You will be advised how much the toll will be. 9. 249 kilometers to Matehuala. Follow signs to Matehuala / Mexico 10. Coming to a split and toll booth. Take right to Zacatecas. 11. Take cuota to ZacatecasHuachichil 12. Pay toll. Toll for cars: $53 pesos 13. Follow signs to Matehuala / San Luis Potosi. A random police checkpoint – no worries – they waved us through. 14. You might be stopped at Mexican army checkpoints looking for illegal drugs and perhaps at agricultural checkpoints concerned with the spread of insects between Mexican states. Be courteous as they do their job. Sign for rest area…San Pedro (comes up about the 136 kilometer marker). It has a restaurant, gas station, restrooms, souvenirs and snacks. We left Saltillo around 7:30 am and got to San Pedro at approximately 9:15 a.m. 15. Take pesos…it cost $2 pesos to go to the bathroom. (about 20 cents) Follow signs to San Luis Potosi. Welcome to the state of San Luis Potosi (not the city, the state). 16. 24 kilometers to Matehuala. 214 kilometeres to San Luis Potosi. 17. Follow signs to Matehuala. A lot of people stay overnight in Matehuala. 18. We arrived on the outskirts of Matehuala at 10:16 a.m.…so it’s about three hours from Saltillo and is a good stopover for the night. To find hotels, go to www.tripadvisor.com and enter Matehuala, Mexico. Las Palmas is very popular with our alumni…it has secure parking and a nice restaurant. We’ve also heard from alumni who like Del Parque, but I don’t have any additional information. Bill and I have never stayed in Matehuala, so we don’t have directions to either of the hotels, but we understand they’re not hard to find.
